My Chances to UCLA, or any UC system school with scholarship?

Asian Male(Filipino)17, go to Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory with tough competition. Definitely in top 50, possibly in top 20 of a Junior class of large proportion(around 300)

By quarter starting from Freshman year up until the end of 2nd quarter of Junior year, my GPA's go:

Freshman 1st quarter: 4.00(6 A's)

Freshman 2nd quarter: 4.00(6 A's)

Freshman 3rd quarter: 4.00 (6 A's)

Freshman 4th quarter: 4.000 (6 A's, all unweighted, no AP or honors in freshman year)

Sophomore 1st quarter: 4.00(6 A's)

Sophomore 2nd quarter: 4.00(6 A's)

Sophomore 3rd quarter: 4.00(6 A's)

Sophomore 4th quarter: 3.83 (5 A's, 1 B ...All unweighted with 1 English Honor class--which I received an A in all 4 quarters)

Junior 1st quarter: 3.83(5 A's, 1 B in AP US History)

Junior 2nd Quarter: 3.63(4 A's, 2 B's -- unweighted with 1 Spanish honors class and 1 AP History class---A in Spanish, B in AP)

AS SEEN ON MY COUNSELOR's COMPUTER, CUMMULATIVE GPA (Overall?) :3.94

Currently in my 3rd Junior quarter.

-3 years participation in Lasallian Vincentian Youth (9,10,11)

-1 year Track and Field (9)

-2 years California Scholarship Federation (10-11)

(does it help i won an Academic Decathlon medal, 1st place, in 8th grade in the Current Event category, competing against more than 10 schools?)

Thanks in advance everyone ! Again, first choice is UCLA, other choices are inside California in SF/LA areas. HAVE NOT TAKEN SAT or ACT yet!

U have a decreasing grade trend = not good

^Agreed with the above... o_o

Class of 300 is not necessarily "large proportion".
CSF is relatively irrelevant, as is 1 year of track.
8th grade decathalon is also irrelevant.

You should take the SAT as soon as possible, before AP/IB etc. comes around.
Otherwise you'll only have one chance to do well on it your senior year.

Yeh I definitely know the bad that comes along with a decreasing grade trend...but hopefully I can change that this semester. Although my goal is all A's, including an A in AP history, the most realistic is 5 A's and 1 B in AP, which is a 4.00 weighted...

Will an increasing grade trend in my senior year help me at all?

First, the chance of getting a scholarship at a UC is zero. California is in a budget crisis and almost every cent will go to residents of California. If a cent in scholarship money is to go to an international, it would go to national award winning, top students.

No one here can give you a clear picture without scores and without knowing whether you've taken your school's top classes throughout high schools. The top UCs throw out candidate who didn't take the toughest course loads.

The average GPA at UCLA and Cal is a UC weighted 4.2. Go onto any UC website to calculate your GPA using their method. Average SAT is about 2050. Internationals need to be at the top of the pool, it's much harder than for Californians.

The budget crisis at the UCs and the fact that they are accepting fewer freshmen will make it tougher than ever.

Given that things are bad there, with tons of classes being cut and warnings that fewer will graduate in 4 years (and it's just 50% now), combined with the fact that they cost over $40K/yr and you need to plan on 5, a UC may not be your best value.

Bump!!!!!!!!

Anyone??????????? =/

With the budget crisis I don't think anyone is getting a scholarship to a UC unless your name is Sasha or Malia Obama. But, by the time they are ready for college California may have recovered. However, it has been getting increasingly difficult to get into the UC's due to the budget crisis. Your stats are pretty good and you may get into UCLA, but you should pick up your decreasing trend. Also, it's gonna be kind of hard to give an accurate opinion because you haven't taken the SAT or ACT yet.

hmom5, where is your source that in state will cost over 40k a year for UC and that only half of the people will graduate?

I think I for some reason thought the OP was international.

In state all inclusive is about $25K, OOS/international over $40K.

That and the graduation rates for each school can be found on the UC Pathways website.

well, thats an excellent gpa and if you do really well on your tests, 1350/1600 on the SAT or so, you have a good chance of getting into UCLA, but even if you dont do that well, the other UCs are not as hard. Santa Barbara is a great school and so is sand diego, but theyve been getting really competitive recently, Irvine and Riverside are easy though

chance me back at
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/635725-chance-me-i-will-chance-back.html

^actually, morganmkm, the acceptance rate at Irvine happened to be lower than at Santa Barbara last year.

I think you have a strong chance at all the UC's. You have an excellent unweighted GPA.

I think it may help that you won in the decathlon award in 8th grade. Do you have a projected SAT/ACT score?

Make sure you apply for the FAFSA, if you're worrying about financial aid.

If you can provide those test scores, we chancers may able to paint a better picture.

Also calculate your UC GPA.

Yah CSF is pretty irrelevant, but if I become CSF President this upcoming year, will that help in the leadership slot? I'm also doing LVY core team, which is a "head honcho" spot on a solely community service club. In addition, I'm applying for Block Club( pretty much the leaders of our school), and might be participating in an internship at a museum over the summer...WILL ALL THIS HELP?!?!?

I also forgot to mention these:

Most Promising Hurdler Award(9)

Most Outstanding Student Award for my World History Class(9)

-Most Outstanding Student Award for my Spanish 3,4 Class(10)

Thanks to everyone for support and optimism. Oh and lastly is the only thing that UC's scrutinize for Senior year the classes we take? Like all they do is check our schedule right? So is it advisable to take AP classes still?
