My Chances @ UChicago, Cornell, CMU?

@NickFlynn I agree

@nycgirl28 I did not?

@eseliz sorry I meant this for @prettygreat

@eseliz but you have great stats so good luck!!!

@nycgirl28 sorry I wasn’t aware that prepscholar wasn’t a good site to use so just ignore that whole post

@nycgirl28 but also since Asian is minority he could get a little boost just like I would for being hispanic

@nycgirl28 thank you!
@prettygreat Would it matter if I was a female? Which I am.

@eseliz that normally doesn’t matter on applications as it would be very sexist if they admitted mostly men or women and not the other race.

If you’re a female majoring in engineering or some other mostly male major it helps. Being asian actually hurts you at the majority of colleges and it’s nothing like being hispanic(which helps almost always)

@Coldsummer123 I was wondering if colleges with a high percentage of female students, males have a better chance of getting in. Since, they want to level the gender ratio.

@eseliz I’d think so.

@prettygreat - Asians are not considered to be Underrepresented minority (URM) so it does not give any boost for admission to elite colleges. Being hispanic is helpful because that is considered to be URM and therefore a hook.

@nycgirl28 Oh okay yes my hook is that I’m a Hispanic male harpist which is very good and rare

I was admitted into UChicago two weeks ago with worse stats than you (at least academically), and with no hooks and no interview. I can tell you confidently that your decision will hinge on whether you have the “UChicago” factor in your essays (i.e. do your essays demonstrate that you have a passion for learning and would fit in at a school that cultivates “the life of the mind”). If yes, you should have 0 problem getting accepted because your stats are phenomenal, but many people don’t realize that for UChicago essays make or break the decision.
