My chances with a D?

So in my junior year I got a D first semester in AP Chem, then got an A in sescond semester. I want to get into a UC and heard that they don’t accept Ds. However, I have taken and passes HP Chem, HP Bio, and AP Physics. Since that is equivalent to 3 years, I have finished my a-g courses right? So would this 1 D make me unable to get into a UC?

If you have finished your a-g reqs, I think you will be fine. Of course, they won’t like the D, but on the plus side it does show a lot of improvement. Depending on GPA, test scores, essays, etc. you can show those schools that you are a good fit for them.

According to the UC/CSU a-g course matrix, the UC’s do not allow validation of Chemistry.
Meaning a 1st semester D cannot be validated by the 2nd semester A.
See 2nd page on Laboratory Science under UC heading.

This means you need 2 other laboratory sciences to meet the a-g course requirements.

The D will also be calculated into your UC GPA. Some campuses may be more forgiving with the D, if you have met the Laboratory science requirements but expect the D to impact your chances at the higher tier UC’s.
