My chances with NJIT?

Hi,
I’m thinking of applying to NJIT this fall. My gpa is 2.9 unweighted. What are my chances of getting in? I would also like to add, during my Junior year of high school I had a family emergency. I heard it’s not very hard to get in but it’s hard to graduate. What ACT score do you reccomend I get to secure admission. I’m also thinking of Drexel, is it easier to get into Drexel compared to NJIT? Or is Drexel even harder to get into? Thanks for all your help.

I would also like to add that, I’m finishing high school with Pre-cal not Calculus. I got a D in Honors Geometry Semster A in 10th grade. I got a C in Algebra 2 semster B in 11th grade. The rest is B and A. I know the admissions folks value math, but I did hava a family emergency in 11th grade.

Can someone please help? There’s literally no info about students who have gotten accepted to this university.

Since nobody’s deciding to help me out here, I may reconsider going to another college. The discussion forum regarding this university is dead. There’s literally no help or info whatsoever. I don’t know if it’s because people don’t know much about this university themselves, or people who know the info just don’t want to help for whatever reason. I’m afraid I won’t get a reply by the time I have already applied to NJIT. Looking at some of the other posts in this specific forum, that may exactly be the case. I haven’t heard too much good stuff about this university either. It’s in one of the most crime infested cities in the country, administration sucks, and academics are very rigorous making it hard for students to graduate. There’s also not much info regarding people who have been accepted into NJIT. No freshman profile avg gpa or no posts about people who have gotten in. It’s top secret information! The only two reasons why I would consider going to NJIT is there’s a great Information Technology program and graduates have a high starting salary.

Thanks for nothing, I haven’t seen a discussion forum that’s this dead on the entire website. The forum matches the university because they’re both lifeless.

Hi dragonfire. I know its too late but I saw your post just nw. I am an int’l student and honestly I don’t know much about any university out there, but since you were so frustrated I just wanted to give you my best wishes.
Sorry I cant help, but good luck!

Hi, DragonFire16. I just made a College Confidential account and saw your post. I’ve been accepted to NJIT, with a weighted GPA of 3.52, SAT Reading 570, Math 680, and Writing 600. I know many universities consider family/personal emergencies when doing the application process, just be sure you say that in your application. I hope the best for you! Sorry no one replied to your post in a decent time, but take it personally. Good luck!

**don’t take it personally

**Unweighted GPA

@FindingCMO It’s no problem. My weighted is not too bad though, 3.41. I hear they place more emphasis on the grades you got in subjects like math and science. Is this true? My test scores are not where I want them to be as well.

I got waitlisted, is that a bad sign?

waitlisted is not necessarily a bad sign. but seriously you might struggle to get through the classes there. in any event, if you have improved grades i would send them along asap. I would not say its an easy school to get in to, maybe not the hardest but not the easist. whatever you do, take math classes this summer to learn more before you show up at college. there are other good nj schools, too. TCNJ?

@clnation I have heard it’s difficult to complete. I’m seriously debating on going here. I already got an offer from Penn State. Do you currently go to NJIT? Do they place more emphasis on the grades you got in subjects like math and science? Do they place emphasis on test scores? What’s TCNJ?

NM I found about about TCNJ. Not too interested.

clnation- admission requirements are considerable tougher at TCNJ. IMO would have to raise grades and test scores considerable and being one of the top 75 most competitive schools in the nation may not be a good fit.

i got accepted to NJIT around October, they had an onsite admission and i got in thankfully. many in my class didn’t cuz they didnt meet the certain SAT requirements. for njit they emphasize more on the SATs than grades. they want at least 1100 Math+CR with a minimum 550 in math and if ur Weighted gpa is a 3.4 like u said and have the SAT scores then hopefully it will be breeze for ya.

Thank you
