My chances with UC Santa Cruz

<p>I'm applying to University of California: Santa Cruz for their Computer Science: Game Design major. Do I have a good chance of being accepted?</p>

<p>Gender: Male
Ethnicity: Native American (registered member of the Bishop Paiute tribe)
SAT score: CR 710, Math 670, Writing 670 (total 2050)
SAT subject tests: Math 2: 680, English Literature: 650
GPA (unweighted): 3.3
State: California
High School: Henry M. Gunn High School (an excellent public school, ranked #67 in the country, stats here</a>)</p>

<p>Extracurriculars:
-Cross Country in the fall season
-French Club
-Tinkering with technology and building things from time to time
-Babysitting my younger siblings, cooking
-Taking small (about $75) commissions as a freelance graphic artist, mostly fixing logos, creating business cards etc. I'm great with Photoshop, pretty good with Flash, learning Illustrator.</p>

<p>Volunteering:
Hiller Aviation Museum - 80 hrs over the last summer, helped with computers, library, and setting up exhibits</p>

<p>Awards: 2 awards (one at the national level, one at state) from the American Association of French Teachers for my performance in the National French Contest (a standardized test for french students)</p>

<p>Let me know if there is any more information that I should add.</p>

<p>Your GPA is a little low but your SAT scores are considerably higher than the average student to UCSC so I think your chances look pretty good. For Computer Science, it would have been nice if the 710 had been in math and the 670 in CR but 670 is still a very strong Math score. Besides, my recollection from many years ago when I took computer programming in Fortran, verbal skills seemed to be as important as math skills in writing programs.</p>
