I am looking to apply to Bennington college and am wondering what my chances of getting in are. My stats: African American, Male, GPA: 4.0 weighted, SAT: 1780, lots of extracurricular activies, and good writer.

You SATs are a little low, unless Math is a lot lower than the other two. I think they care less about Math. But you don’t have to submit them, so you might consider not. Other than that, it depends on if there is something special about you. Your essay needs to be attention grabbing. If you can interview, you should. I feel like the interview at a place like Bennington counts for a great deal. Good luck.

I would not submit the SATs. Submitting scores won’t hurt you, but the people in the admissions office really don’t care about them. GPA is more than good enough. Just make sure you write good essays. Good essays, unless you have really stellar academics (that make Bennington look good) are the key to Bennington admissions.

Agree with other posters, don’t submit SATs. Interview if at all possible–daughter has met with admission counselor 3 times–once at a college fair, once on campus, once at off campus interview–she was told interviews very important. Also told that SATs are way down their list. Her grades are lower than OP’s, but ad counselor was very positive about her app. She worked hard and did a nice job on essays. Included in her app a dvd with performing arts clips. This is really a place that looks for kids that fit, not necessarily the kids with the best grades, so interviews, essays, recs, any supplements very important.

Oh, and being black and male certainly doesn’t hurt. I didn’t notice that the first time.
