my chances?

Hello, I would like to receive your opinions on my chances. Thank you in advance.

GPA; 3.2 UW / 3.25 W

SAT: 1960
-Critical Reading: 620
-Math: 700
-Writing: 640

My school does not rank.
My school, Darien High School, is a US News "Silver Medal" school.

AP/Advanced Courses Taken:

Computer Science
Advanced Programming
Economics

My intended major is computer science.

I will have 3 letters of recommendation (guidance counselor, club advisor, computer science teacher).

Extracurricular Activities:
-I have participated in a few school programming competitions at universities such as Quinnipiac. Our team placed well.
-Member of Support Our Soldiers Club for 2 years.
-I am starting to volunteer at Person to Person this year and expect to have 50 hours of volunteer work by application time.
-Member of computer club for 4 years.
-My work experience: Bus boy for 2 years at local restaurant.

Other information:
-I will be applying for financial aid
-I am white

Honestly, I’d say your chance of getting in would be pretty low. What really kills you is your GPA. Also, U of I doesn’t take any recomendations, if they recieve it, they just throw it away immediately.

At a big state school like Illinois, grades and test scores are the primary factors in admission. Your SAT is alright, but your GPA is rather low. You’re a longshot, but I wouldn’t give up all hope. Good luck!

Hi there,

I currently have around a 3.4 UW. ACT score hopefully 30-32.
I’m only a sophomore now, but in a scenario where my GPA reaches 3.55, how likely will this make or break my chances to be accepted as a Pre-Law major and Poly-Sci Minor?
Thanks again.
Also, I’m top 66% in my school, but there are 1,000+ students in my grade.

CompSci is in the College of Engineering and is thus very competitive. You may have a shot for the LAS Mathematics & Computer Science major though (I am not sure if that one has CoE or LAS standards for entry). I hope you get in though - I’m from Connecticut too!

i got accepted to CS with a 3.4 weighted GPA and 2050 SAT. you’re worth a shot.
