My chances?

<p>Hello! Could someone possibly chance me? I do realize that chance me posts are irritating, so I apologize for the inconvenience. However, I want to know whether it is worth it for me to apply to Amherst. Here are my stats:</p>

<p>Junior in a public high school
Weighted GPA: 4.63
Class Rank: 6 out of 264 students
SAT: 2090 (will retake, going for a 2200)
SAT II’s: Chemistry 720, Math I 710 (will retake)</p>

<p>Junior Year Transcript:
AP English Language and Composition: A+
H Physics: A
AP Chemistry: A-
AP US History II: A
H Mandarin Chinese II: A+
H French IV: A+
H Pre-Calculus: A+</p>

<p>EC’S and etc.:

  • played JV volleyball for 2 years
  • played JV field hockey for 2 years (going for varsity this year)
  • student pilot
  • NHS member
  • Interact Club Secretary, Chinese Club Secretary
  • have been working at the public library for the past year
  • have been working as a Russian to English translator for a Russian publishing company for three years, and before that, as an editor for the same company
  • head editor of MABLE documentation for AL&FA BDI in 2005
  • got into the advanced program at STARTALK, for Mandarin Chinese after only 1 year Chinese (I was in a class with all 4 year students)
  • Received a double Faculty Award in World Languages, French and Mandarin Chinese, 2010
  • 2nd place in my high school science fair
  • 1st degree black belt in Taekwondo
  • Fluent in Russian
  • Member of the following clubs at school: Chinese Club, Interact Club, Yearbook Financial Club (used to be part of International Club and French Club as well)
  • Member of the Task Force for Global Education, a teacher board at my school that has 2 students on it
  • Am of Tatar ethnicity, born in Uzbekistan, Russian citizen, and currently residing in the US</p>

<p>Your stats are good. The Uzbekistan/Russian connection is also good. However, the one thing that you MUST do is make sure that your essays are fantastic and that they represent who you are. Prepare and do well on the SAT or ACT. No guarantees, because Amherst is difficult to get into, but you have a good chance.</p>

<p>Okay, thanks. I personally don’t think I’m very good at essays, but my English teacher does. Do you have any tips about the essays?</p>

<p>Wow! You DO look good, but again, why not Midd with all that language expertise?</p>

<p>Essays should emphasize what is special about you-something you feel strongly about.Have it proof-read. Write a couple different ones and have some people in the know read them and vote on the best.</p>
