Hello everyone,
I am from Singapore and graduating this year. The junior college i am attending is on of the top schools here. I have great interest in Pomona college because it really fits me!
Something about me: I came from China to Singapore under scholarship provided by Ministry of Education of Singapore.(My nationality is PRC) I have attended two years of High School and two years of Junior College (so it is kind of different from education systems elsewhere; and the activities in Junior College are weighed more important than those in HS)
My SAT scores:
SAT1: CR 700 MA 800 WR 800
SAT 2: Math Level 2 800, Chemistry 800, Physics 800
Act: didnot take
AP: Nil
Class Ranking: top 10%

ECs:
Gardening Club(President 2 years), Indian Dance (the only male of my betach 2 years/singapore youth festival 2011 Silver Award)
Chinese Drama (Acting Cast & Major Roles 3 years), Science research Committee (participate in a physics research project), Class board (Welfare rep), Boarding School Student Council (Human resource director/Committee member of orientation 2years)
National Chemistry Contest 1st runner up 2009

Major:undecided (maybe business and something related)
My long term goal: start up my own business and help developed countries in the fields of education and healthcare (which i deem to be most crucial)
I am considering to apply ED and i do not need any financial aid.
btw, this is my very first thread so pls feel free to comment on it.
What are my chances of being accepted and what else i can do to enhance my chances?
Feedback from alumni, current students, parents are all appreciated! Thanks:)

You sound like a very good international canidate!

P.S. I like your longterm goal :)

Tks so much. That is also why i choose California because it offers really good atmosphere do business:)

I really have no idea how the admissions office evaluates international students, but you test scores are great (especially assuming English is not your first language). Your extracuricular activities are not stunningly great, but they are good, and good recommendations from teachers can help present them in their best light. So work hard on getting recommendations from people who will really rave about you.

Keep in mind that liberal arts colleges like Pomona do not offer a business major; I think you would be wise to write a personal statement that emphasizes your interest in a health/business combo, or education/business combo. Pomona has tons of pre-med students, but perhaps not so many who want to combine medicine and business in the developing world.

If Pomona really fits you, tell them why that is the case.

Good luck!

FauxNom: Thank you so much. I have no idea what my tutors are going to write about me because we are not allowed to read the rec letters. But i am counting on decent rec letters since all my tutors are really nice and caring folks and they like me pretty much:)
With regard of my ECs, I forgot to include my community involvement and volunteering experiences:
-Overseas Community Involvement Service -Hainan China 2009 (basically to help farmers harvest crops)
-Overseas Community Involvement Service-Vietnam 2010 (To teach kids English and build toilets and expand schoolyard for a primary school)
-1st Youth Olympic Game School Representative/volunteer
-Self-Initiated Service Learning Project (teach Chinese language and inculcate traditional Chinese Values among kids who are most from dysfunctional families)group leader
-Earth Hour 2010 Volunteer
Hope the additional information would help:)
Thanks so much for your advise on my personal statement.

Your chances look good, but Pomona really cares about the essay so make sure to write it well.

shimmer: Thank you for your advice. But how do I know what Pomona is looking for or what type of students are preferred?
