I'm trying to play up my music because it is such a big part of my life, and my Common App essay will be about my past experience at Interlochen. Other than Yale, I'm considering Dartmouth, Harvard, and Princeton. Thank you in advance! :)

bump this?

You’re a strong applicant who can get in almost anywhere, with the possible exception of some of the schools on your list. I’m thinking you’re a probable yes at Dartmouth and a definite maybe at HYP. A key factor in your application is likely to be the strength of the case you make for your music, and the music/sports combo is good.

Good luck!

For the sake of college admissions, but, more importantly, for the quality of your future life, my advice would be to watch out for perfectionism. (Taking your weighted and unweighted GPA to the fourth decimal point is but one indication). You don’t want to channel Paris Geller from Gilmore Girls… perfectionistic to the point of rigidity.

But, given that we all have to be one way or another, and that being a perfectionist is far from the worst thing in the world… my advice? Show that you have a personality and a soul in your essays. Write about what you really love, and not about what you think that they want to hear.

I wish you the best of luck. You’re obviously a good kid who has worked very hard to do well in school, and you’ve succeeded at that. Most of all, I hope that you end up at a place that is a good match for who you are as a human being.

Oh wow, your stats are amazing!!! But i’m curious about your location. When you said rural NC did you mean North Carolina or Northern California, because the location information below your name says you are from Los Angeles, California. And I am pretty sure Los Angeles is in Southern California. Sorry if i put you on the spot, but I am just curious. Hahaha.

I hope that I showed personality and soul in my essays, because Yale is definitely now my top-choice school! I ended up changing one to be about a childhood friend who molded who I am today. And it is north Carolina- in a (somewhat ill thought-out) plan to remain anonymous. Except I said in posts that I’m from north Carolina… Yes, not well thought-out for my usual perfectionism :)

LOL. Yeah i guessed as much. I considered doing the same thing actually but I just left my location blank…i hope. But i think you have a great chance, just keep working on your essays and it will be all good! I hope the best for you, good luck!!! :)

You have great stats and will get into great schools. Even so, you may not get into all the schools on your list, so you need to have matches and safeties as well.

You should seriously consider a music supplement if your piano playing is at a high level–probably the case since you’ve been at Interlochen.
