Hi everyone,

I usually find these threads ridiculous, but I'm sorta in a position where I could use some of your opinions. I just submitted my early application to Princeton, but I'm really unsure of my chances especially because of my stats.

I go to a competitive magnet school. My courseload is pretty good so I'm not that concerned about it. Ok anyways, here:

GPA: 3.88
ACT: 32
Math 2: 750
Bio: will take this saturday

My recs should be pretty good...my counselor said mine's the longest and we have a good relationship. Other one's from my research mentor who's prob going to talk about my research project.

I guess the strongest part of my app is my ec's. I have lots of things aligned with my major--sociology. They're mostly empowering underrepresented groups.

Sorry that I'm being really broad but just know that other parts of my app are fine except for the stats..What do you think? (Try not to be rude though.)

The other parts of your app are what matters, not the stats. Nearly everyone who applies to Princeton will have those sorts of numbers (or more) so they essentially drop out as a factor in determining admission.

Thanks for your reply! That’s actually great news. But I thought the point where numbers start not mattering is when your ACT score’s 34+ and SAT 2 scores are 750+?

well, it depends. a 750 in math is like 70th percentile. i’d say 780-800 would be very safe

No one here can tell you whether youll get in or not, even if they could read your entire application.

I feel that all applicants to Princeton should proceed as if they are not going to get in. The same goes for applications to the other Ivies and to other schools that accept only a small percentage of the well-qualified applicants. Im not trying to be negative, Im simply being prudent.

I would give the same advice if you had an ACT of 36. There are no “safe” score levels.

Youve already applied EA, so its time to move on to your other applications. Forget about your Princeton application pretend you didnt apply, and get your other applications ready to go out the door.

(By the way, be wary of the advice you get on chance threads on this site most of the answers come from high school kids, which is kind of like asking the patient in the next hospital bed to you whether youre going to get well or not.)

(And, of course, since I’m also an anonymous poster, you are welcome to be suspect of my advice as well, if you feel it is foolish).

Thanks everyone! And Boondocks, yea I understand what you’re saying, thanks
Ok so I took bio sat 2 today…and um I’m not sure if I can break 700. I don’t understand why but I really suck at standardized tests. I have a 690 from the past that I got on the E section…would that lower my chances… btw im Asian so yea this sucks

hey so…i have another question. im interested in majoring in sociology, but how was i supposed to express this interest in my essays? i wrote about specific stories of my life…my personal statement’s about my dad and my supplement essay has to do with a headmaster of a primary school in Kenya that has inspired me last summer. Nowhere in either of the essays do I connect my activities to my area of interest and ultimately my interest in Princeton. Were we supposed to do that?

No. It would have said so in the prompt.

soo…my official bio score’s 690 what now…did my chances go down a lot just now? :’( so sad

@Happyppah - don’t stress about a 690. I doubt it makes much difference breaking 700 if you are that close. EVERYTHING feels like such a huge deal during the app process. Try to be kind to yourself and trust that you’ve done your best and things will work themselves out one way or another.

@Cantiger thank you for your kind words :)
