Hi I have always REALLY wanted to go to Brown and I was wondering from current students what are my chances;

It’s kinda pointless to take both math SAT’s. You usually just pick one and try your best at that one. The schools don’t want to see 2 math SAT’s. You will want to submit 2 different subject SAT’s.

Read over the test prep tips and the Xiggi method in this forum:
[SAT Preparation - College Confidential](SAT Preparation - College Confidential Forums)

Yes, definitely don’t retake both Math SAT IIs. Neither of those scores are particularly impressive, but having two doesn’t make up for that.

She does have a second subject test: Spanish.

So should I improve one of them and take another Subject Test? If I were to vastly improve my Math I and take US History. Wouldn’t that 630 pop out (negatively)?!

Take Math I and US History.

You only need to submit your two best scores (math & one other subject) - they’ll never see the 630 in Math II.

Dammit, I already submitted them… :(

Unlikely that they’ll be given much (if any) weight once the higher scores arrive, so don’t worry too much about it. The admissions officers know perfectly well that lots of applicants have low subject test scores that are just never submitted - so there’s no reason to penalize you just because you accidentally submitted yours.

Yea I have decided to take Math II (since its the lowest one) and US History. Thanks to all of you. I would’ve never known this. But wouldn’t having Spanish (I speak Spanish), Math I, II, and US History. FOUR Subject Test be a bad sign?

No, taking four subject tests wouldn’t be a problem - lots of people take several subject tests. (My own son has several, some taken as early as 9th grade - and the scores on those tests were AWFUL!)

But I do question your decision to retake Math II. Since you did better on Math I, why don’t you work on just getting an even higher score on that test?

My thought process is that if I can eliminate that 630 with a 700 or more. My Stats would look a lot more presentable; Spanish: 700, Math I: 680 and hopefully both Math II and US History in the 700s as well.

OP, you may want to look at this:
<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools;

Looking at your scores right now, the Math I score is much more impressive by percentile (75th) than the Math II score (45th). I would really just focus on that Math I score - getting it up to a 700 would be much more impressive overall than getting a 700 on the Math II.

But isn’t that 630 really glaring in my application? Like wouldn’t it look better, 700, 680, 700, and 700. (Hypothetically speaking)

No, you want to focus on submitting the two highest scores possible.

And, for what it’s worth, nothing you do will make the 630 “disappear.” You’ve already submitted it. The school has it. That’s done, so now it’s time to move on and see how much you can impress them with your HIGH scores.

So your choices are (using your example):

630, 680, 700, 700 (US History) and 700 (Math II)

or

630, 680, 700, 700 (US History) and 750 (Math I)

Which group of scores do you think looks better?

Hmmm that is an interesting point. Thanks. Good point. Thank you again I did forget to mention that I took the Math I again and got a 660 (the same day I took Math II) Ugh what a mess!

Well, trying to do them both the same day doesn’t sound like it would be any fun. Just too much math!

Prep as much as you can, and just give it your best shot!

brown accepts january sat scores?

I hate to bring this up but is Spanish spoken at home?

Yea, thats why Im gonna have to take History…
