I'm currently a junior in high school. I think I've done okay so far, however this year was pretty tough for me and I received 1 B and a couple B+s. My GPA went down from around a 3.94 to like a 3.86. I've been taking/will continue taking hard classes at my school. I've also been working in a lab dealing with my subject interest. How much will this drop hurt my chances of getting into LSA...or College of Engineering? I'd really like to do a duel major between the two. How can I improve my chances?

3.86 is definitely good enough as long as your ACT/SAT is competitive; if it isn’t, retake to get 30+

It really depends on your school profile and course rigor. For LSA, the admission average GPA was 3.85. For CoE, it was 3.9. You are right around the average. So you chance would depend on the rest of your credential and state residence.

Thank you for the advice!

Hey,

First off don’t be discouraged a 3.86 is still a solid gpa. I’m only concerned about that downward trend. What classes did you take this year? Engineering will closely look at math and physics classes, and lsa will look closely at science and language classes. Your gpa isn’t bad like I said, it’s just the downward trend that happened in one semester (or two) that concerns me. Make your essays strong and you recs strong and you can do it!

Thank you! The class I did badly in was physics. My GPA is around a 3.89…I hope that is good enough. I did retake the SAT to get higher scores.

I took French III, AP Calc BC, Computational Physics ( The AP Equivalent at my school), Chemistry, British Literature, and Government/Econ. This year, I’m taking AP Chem, AP Bio, AP Lit, Anatomy, DiffEq/Linear Algebra (Dual Enrollment)

How is your SAT/ACT? Are you in state?
