My chances?

Guys, I'm going to apply this year to :

University of Southern California
NYU Poly
Purdue
Carnegie Melon
Drexel university
uVA
Johns Hopkins ( pretty much impossible)
Cornell (same)
Florida Tech( backup)

I'm a US citizen but i've lived in Pakistan so I've done O/A levels, not American high school.

SAT:2030 (Math 690, Cr 630,Writing 710)
Yet to give SAT 2 but expecting 730-770 in Math 2 and 720-750 in Chemistry.
O Levels 6 A* , 1A , 1 B.
A*'s in the important subjects( Maths, pure Math, Physics ,Chem , Bio, English)
A Levels: expected grades A Maths , A Chem, B physics

EC's:
Community service at several organizations ( over the course of two consecutive years)
Taught primary school kids mathematics (3-4 hours a week for a year)
A mechanical engineering internship at a well known University in Pakistan( pretty useful for later on)
Won an inter-school documentary/advertisement making competition.(had to make Ad using camera and edit and stuff)
Won an inter-school mathematics competition.
Part of the logistics team that arranged a MUN at school. Arranged for a formal dinner , concert, MUN committees etc.

I'm praying for carnegie melon but i'll be really happy with Purdue or NYU . Chances for all the uni's?
Thanks

And btw, I’m applying for either Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.

Johns and Cornell are definitely a stretch, but all your other schools are definitely within reach. It really helps that you are from the middle east because that is an underrepresented minority. Also, your SAT scores are great and on-par if not higher than the schools you are looking at. It looks good that you helped people in Pakistan, maybe tie that into your essay?
Good luck!!! and thanks for chancing me!

Also, if you are out of state UVA will be a bit harder

Middle eastern is NOT an URM.

Pakistan is not considered to be in the middle east , more in south asia .But Thank you ! Yes, I talked about helping people in my essay so that’s good

I think you have a better chance for NYU and Purdue as well. Carnegie Mellon will be more likely if you can higher your SAT a little bit. I don’t know much about A-levels but make sure you take many hard classes as well. Good luck!:)

Try to raise your SAT a bit for USC, Carnegie Mellon. Otherwise looks good.

Chance me back at: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1675275-chance-me-for-ed-tufts.html#latest

Anyone else.

Hi Sameer - Thanks for the chance!

I think you are definitely in reach for schools like Purdue/Carnegie Mellon/NYU. Unfortunately for you, universities don’t have much to go off from you other than test scores, so I would try to raise your SAT score a little bit. It’s great that you’re doing ECs and I think they are solid enough for any of those schools, especially since you’re in Pakistan where O level exams are very important.

Cornell and Johns Hopkins will be a definite reach but a great SAT score (2250+) I feel would put you in the race for those schools as well.

Good luck!

Thanks. And my result came out today. I scored an A in Physics as well :)

Your SAT math and CR score need to rise to be competitive at the top schools.

Since you did A levels, why are you not applying to any British schools?

I’m a US ctizen so there are chances of financial aid. England is expensive. What schools do you think I can get into , from the list, with the same SAT?

Bump

You have good extracurriculars and a unique background. I would try to retake the SAT. A higher score will only improve your chances. I would try to nail the essays.

It was my impression that most British schools were far cheaper. Is that not the case or will the financial aid be that good?

US universities would be cheaper for US students and vice versa. I think I can manage to get some financial aid. So going to England would be pointless. Plus , US Universities rate A levels as much as APs and IBs, if not higher(A levels are pretty hard and they know it)
