My Chances

I really want to go to Arizona State University, yes I know it is easy to get into but anyway I have always wanted to go and my chances don’t seem too good. I have a 2.7 GPA and this past summer I did summer school for a D I had in Spanish 2 and I got an A so my GPA is higher I just haven’t gotten the updated number. Aside from that I have a D in Algebra 1and a D in biology. But my counselor enrolled me in Marine Biology and she said that it will help with the D in bio since I can’t do summer school to help. My ACT score is a 19 right now but I have been studying all summer and I am prepared to improve. My goal ACT score is a 24 or 24. With all that in mind, do I even have a shot to get in?
Forgot my extracurriculars…

  • 4 years on High school cheer team
  • 1 year varsity cheer captain
  • 6 years Assistance League (philanthropy)

Have you retaken Algebra 1? I believe all colleges would require that as a class to pass, because it’s one of the most fundamental classes you will need. I hope you get a 24 on your ACT, as that would be a safe score for ASU. Does your school require you to pass Algebra 1 to graduate?

These are the ASU requirements which includes up to Algebra II or higher for Math.

ASU welcomes applications from students with diverse academic backgrounds and interests. Freshman applicants who possess a high school diploma and meet the following requirements will be admitted to ASU.
English - 4 years (composition/literature based)
Math - 4 years (algebra I, geometry, algebra II and one course requiring algebra II as a prerequisite)
Laboratory Science - 3 years total (1 year each from any of the following areas are accepted: biology, chemistry, earth science, integrated sciences and physics)
Social Science - 2 years (including 1 year American history)
Second Language - 2 years (same language)
Fine Arts or Career and Technical Education - 1 year

Applicants must also meet at least one of the following:
Top 25% in high school graduating class
3.00 GPA in competency courses (4.00 = “A”)
ACT 22 (24 nonresidents)*
SAT Reasoning 1120 (1180 nonresidents)*

So OP, do you meet the minimum requirements? You might want to consider taking the SAT if you are unable to raise your ACT.
