My chances @....

Hey guys-
I was kinda hesitant about posting a thread on the chances forum because i really hate the whole idea of it.Im a junior that is pretty open to suggestions, but mainly i want to go to either an LAC or smaller private. Again im not set on this, but I want to major in anthropology with a more biological focus, as well as a minor in environmental studies/sciences. Ultimately i want to go to med school, so high med school acceptance rates are important, but i really just want an awesome undergrad experience beforehand.

Stats:
3.92 gpa with an upward trend (3.6 fresh. to 4.0 junior)
31 Act (35 eng, 26 math, 31 read, 30 sci)---im boycotting the SAT btw
top 5% of class-competitive class, not competitive hs
My crappy public school doesnt offer any honors or AP classes at all, but I have been taking post-secondary classes through two local colleges. So far I have psch 110 and 111, both with 4.0 and also PreCalc with 4.0 as well. Ive always pushed myself in trying to take the hardest courses at my school, but my school makes that really hard by requiring us to take stupid classes like a whole year of gym, computers, health, ect. Plus we dont have block scheduling.
No hooks that i know of...im white, middle class, small town ohio
basic ECs:
various music/band programs thru hs: marching, jazz, concert-- sont get confused, im no band geek
talent in art- Ohio governors art show top 300-4 works in 2 years (this is comparable to "going to state" in athletics)
buckeye boys state delegate-my teachers love me
various community service projects-special olympics, relay for life, ect
plan to volunteer at hospital this summer
work 10-15 hours week all year, plan to lifegaurd this summer as well
umm...i live in the middle of nowhere, so its impossible to do big research endeavors and what not, but i try to make a difference with what i have...
oh yea-im a swimmer, 2nd year letterman, 3 school records
theres some others, but i think you get the general idea...

these are some of the schools ive been looking at...how do you guys think i will fare at some of them?

LACS:
Macalester, Kenyon, Vassar, Midd, Wesleyan, Colgate, Davidson

Uni's:
Northwestern, Emory, Duke, Ohio St honors (in state)

I know theres more, just dont have the time to put them all down right now. If you guys want to suggest any other colleges, feel free.

thanx
ryan

other NESCAC schools that might interest you: hamilton, conn college, trinity, bates, colby. i happen to know that conn is greatly seeking smart male swimmers so you would probably get in there.

Based on your interests, have you considered Rice? It's pretty small (~720 in a class), and I believe it does pretty well med-school-wise.

If interested in Colgate, might look at Holy Cross and Bucknell. Also HC is only 1 hour from Boston.

With 3 school swim records--presuming these are good in comparison to other schools, you might even have a chance at a places like Stanford or UCLA--both of which have great pride in their swim teams.

I would look to add some kind of leadership activity to your ECs--that seems to be the only thing missing.

actually, my school has a horrible swim team, so my times are really about average when compared to other schools. I would think to be competitive for stanford or UCLAs swim teams, i would have to be like state-finalist kinda good... other than that, im working on getting in some leadership for my senior year as well- running for class v.p. and art club president. I think if any of my ECs will help me, it will be my art. I want to continue art in college on a elective/hobby level, so I hope to submit a portfolio and what not. Im lovin the suggestions you guys are giving me, but what about my chances at some of the places Ive listed?

thanks,
Ryan

For the ones I know--

Colgate (match)
Northwestern (slight reach)
Duke (slight reach to reach)
Emory (match)
Ohio State (regular)-safety
Ohio State (honors)-match

improve your ACT to (34-35) from the current 31 and these are all matches in my opinion

<boycotting the="" sat="" btw=""></boycotting>

haha me too. ACT all the way!!!
