i'm becoming a junior and the only extracurricular activity i have done is piano. i'm planning to join the basketball team, 2 clubs, and leadership and continue throughout high school. is it okay if i have like basically no extracurricular activities during 9th-10th grade? oh yeah and i just started volunteering at the library. just planning to do it for the summer before junior year. & when writing down info in the college application is there a separate section for what you did for each summer or is it just by each grade? my grades are somewhat good. just the extracurricular part. is that okay to get into a uc? thanks.

I'm going to be a senior and I regret not doing many ECs. You're on the right track...definitely join clubs (and if possible try to get a leadership role or something) and keep up with basketball. I don't think it's a big deal to not to have many ECs during 9-10 grade, especially for freshman year. If possible, consider what you want to major in and find an EC having to do with that. Or at least find something you're genuinely interested in and start volunteering (or something) from now up through senior year -- that will show definite interest and dedication. Make sure not to slack off on the ECs (like I did). In combination with good grades, you should get into many UCs (and probably have a good shot at UCLA/UCB).
