My Chances?

Hey, I am a senior this year wondering if anyone could give me an idea of if these schools are really safety/match/reach. I am planning to apply for engineering school (probably biomedical engineering).

SATI: 700m 710w 670v
SATII: 700iic 740 physics 650 lit.
ACT: 30
*These should improve a few points

EC: Student Council president (VP junior year)
Model United Nations (4 years, Ambassador for 1)
National Honor Society
Volunteer work- Habitat for Humanity, Homeless shelters (in Budpest Hungary)
Intramural sports (soccer, bball, tennis)
Some academic awards, (physics achievement in school, bridge building winner, school wide yound inventors fair medalist (school of about 200!! haha))

I currently live in Hungary, and have lived in Singapore. I am a cancer survivor, and should recieve great letters of reccomendation. I know my scores are not top notch, but not horrible either. I am thinking of applying

reach: Stanford, Duke, U of Pennsylvania.

Target: Cornell (maybe reach), JHU (maybe reach), Georgia Tech, Northwestern, U Mich, Wash u in St. Louis.

Safety: Iowa state, U minnesota, U wis.-madison.

Any advice I would appreciate, also what do u think my chances are at the reaches and JHU? i know biomed is very competitive at JHU. -Thanks

also about a 3.8 gpa unweighter, 4.3 weightes- full IN diploma student w/ HL physics, econ, math, english, SL spanish and art

I'm not sure how to say this but honestly, a good essay about surviving cancer would really interest adcoms. I hope you don't take that as being insensitive, but colleges are really interested in personal struggle. Otherwise, you look pretty good scores wise, but how are your grades? Also, I think you have a nice list because you have some good safties, matches, and reaches. In an after thought, being an international applicant and living in several countries can also be to your benefit in essays and admissions in general.

hey, thanks for the reply. My grades are fine, mostly A's, a few A-'s and 2 B's in spanish. I am planning to milk the cancer for all it's worth and get a good essay out of that! along with the international student thing which should help out too.

Just don't make the caner essay look to "milk it for all its worth" because adcoms can sense insincerity a mile away.

Yes, i was joking around with my wording. You're certianly right about sincerity in the essays.

If you don't mind me asking, what type of caner?

testicular

sorry man, that's rough

hey- i got a new profile- got sick of my stupid sexygeek name. Yeah, it was rough, but it is certainly a life changeing experience, and has given me a new persepective on things. And all is well now!

So do you like Lance Armstrong, he seems to be the poster boy for testicular cancer recovery

yes, Lance is great. If you haven't read his book, you should. His life story is amazing.

We read "It's Not About the Bike," in 10th grade English. My teacher was a big Lance fan, we had to write a bunch of essays on it for our final exam.
