I would like to know my chances of getting into those ivy leauges... I am worried about my mid-year report.... Thanks for your opinions....

i hope you have some safeties. honestly, i'm pretty sure you wont get into Harvard or Yale. your GPA & SAT is too low. you may get into cornell, but that's a big reach. if you're satIIs are all 700+, i'd say you had a better chance. but i hope you're applying to other schools.

Of course i am applying to other schools... <_< I have already been accepted to one. And Samp0320, I know my SAT score is low, I don't need it shoved in face anymore... I was asking about my chances.... SAT score isn't everything.

Im sure you've probably heard this, but ecause admission officers are forced to look at the color of your skin over the quality of your character, your chances will be increased.

I don't think that you will get into any Ivy. I'm sorry, but you should really be more realistic in your pursuit of colleges. A 3.5, 1110, and meager ECs will not get you into any Ivy League institution (or Ivy League calibur, for that matter).

It really annoys me when people just apply to schools completely out of their reach just for the heck of it. It is a waste of everyone's time.

I know that this post will probably make people mad, but I don't really care. Whatever. Sure you can apply anywhere you want, but it is pointless to do so.

Congratulations on already having been accepted to one of your colleges, Dre. Unfortunately, I think your stats in general (i.e. SAT scores, GPA) will work against you in your applications to the Ivies. The same goes for your D+ in Pre-Cal - this grade will not bode well. I'm sure if you're really bent on becoming a physician, however, you'll be able to do this from whatever college you end up going to. Good luck.

I have heard Harvard adcoms saying that in general, the lowest SAT score of accepted students is a 1200. Thus, I think the odds are very long against your being accepted to Harvard and similar schools.

There are many other schools, though, that would find you a highly desireable candidate including being worthy of major merit aid.

Congrats on the offer from Xavier. It is tops in the country in terms of funneling black students into med school and could be a wonderful place for you to attend. Another place that might be an excellent match would be U Maryland Baltimore County because it, too, does a wonderful job of getting black students into medical schools.

umm, to the person who made this post ; if you're going to ask for advice, be prepared for people to say "you just don't look qualified enough". there's really no need to get an attitude when people say what's pretty much true. Samp0320 wasn't "shoving anything in your face", he/she was only stating the obvious.

Because you a URM, you have a shot at getting into one of the ivy's except Harvard and possibly even Princeton. However, you got a D+ in your precalculus class, and that will not work in your favor. That D+ may be the reason you won't get in. The Ivy's prefer not to see a D from anyone. Not just the ivy's, but all prestigious and highly selective institutions. Your SAT Score is fine, given that the average African-American SAT Score is way lower than yours by a huge amount. Your GPA is okay (though you should have at least a 3.7), but that D+ is not great. To be honest, if I were on the adcoms at the ivy's that you are applying to, I would think "Okay, he is not bad, but why does he have that D is precalculus." And I would want a huge full blown explanation from you, and if I did not get one, I would not admit you.

I have a 2nd degree black belt in tea kwon do so ur EC is worth -- unless u are really ultra mega good at it (People said mine is not that great). If you want to get rid of the D i suggest taking an online course Im retaking chemistry at elearn.byu.edu the courses are normally for a whole year not one semester though.

Your minority status MIGHT get you into Cornell, but nothing is for certain because you never know with the ivies. However, I wish you good luck with everything. And congatulations on getting into Xavier!

im sure you can get into at least one if your essays are good. people on this board can be very harsh and condescending,i think u like a very focused and motivated person. good luck man!

okay, not being racist here, but you're black, so you probably think that will boost your chances. BUT you also have to consider the fact that there are a LOT of other black/hispanics out there that will apply to those same three schools with stats are a LOT better than yours. you know your sats arent great. your gpa is okay (not good compared to other GPAs u will find at those 3 schools). your ECs aren't going to make you stand out very much compared to other applicants. i guess the fact that you actually created a thread and asked for chances says that you think you have a chance of getting in. also, you making that comment that you KNOW your sats are low says even more so that you think u have a chance. well.........i say you have VERY VERY VERY low chances. the classes you take arent very hard either. dont get offended by my post, and dont think im being racist......its my honest opinion, and im sure others think so too.
