I hate waiting... and since I totally messed up my first semester I really need to get in somewhere other than my safeties.

GPA: 4.10w (decimal change decrease but first semester, I got a D in calc--C- for the semester)

Hardest Classes (taking 5 APs this year)

Rank: 16/180

SATs: CR800, M720, W610
CR780, M690, W690
Sent PSAT though they probably won't look (CR68, M72, W78--weird scores)
SATIIs (do they even look at these? ): Math I720, Lit780, US His 790
AP: 5s on Eng Lit and US History

About average on everything else... ecs (actually probably below--ton of community service hours but only two leadership positions)/teacher recs/guidance recs/essays--I kind of blew them off, cause back then, I wasn't that worried

I am assuming you are applying for fall 2007 and have already done so, meaning you will get a decision on Feb 16. To which college at UIUC did you apply? Rank and SAT that counts (highest combined CR and M taken from one test -- your 800 and 720; writing section of SAT is ignored) are fine for any of the colleges, give you a good chance, but do not guarantee admission and essays can be important, and "very" important if applying to business, so if you blew off the essays that might have a negative impact. SAT II's are ignored, recs are not considered (so you lost nothing there). Your grades first semester senior year have no impact on admission decision because UIUC goes by grades/class rank at end of junior year. Where it can have an impact is UIUC's possible withdrawal of the admission decision after you have been admitted and have submitted your final high school transcript. If what you are saying is that you got a D in calc first semester senior year and a C- overall first semester senior year (I am not sure that is what you said), then, if admitted, you will face the risk of possible withdrawal. but may alleviate that by having a stellar spring semester.

you'll get admitted. your rank and gpa is high. drusba, they wont withdrawal him cause he got a d or c unless he got straight f's. they just want to see if you actually graduated.

Oops--didn't realize that my first semester grades won't count in my decision since my school auto-sends them to all my colleges. I'm applying to LAS. Thanks very much. (By the way, I'm a girl.)

jane 11, i think they're looking for a bit more than simply graduation from high school. instead, they probably want to see their students not "letting go" as soon as they apply because they think the journey is over. it's not. a C is not going to change an admission decision...just dont get too many of them or much below that.
