im a junior
im trying to know where i'm at and what i'll need to get into binghamton
my psat score is : 460verbal 670 math and 540 writing (without any studying)
my overall avg throughout highskool so far is probably a 90 and ill probably end with a 91
i took the bio sat II's ad got a 540 freshmen year
i have double science classes this year( 1 ap + 1 honors) ..and 3 aps next year.
i have some extracurricular activites like sports , volunteering, involvement with a religion community,
i would like to know what i would need to be accepted.

Well right off the bat...probably work on your SATs...your math looks pretty good..focus on your verbal..+200ish? that would be pretty solid
are you planning to take anymore SATII?
and what major are you planning to apply to?

well im maybe thinking about biochem
since my skool sucks and doesnt hav ap physics
after next year..ill have taken every honors and AP science available in my skool since i doubled up science this year with physics honors and ap bio

oh yeah im planning on maybe retaking bio
and definitely taking math
but i heard binghamton doesnt accept sat II scores

i also feel like i can get my math sat score between 680-740.
and my writing to a 600 at least
not sure about verbal . i think i'll end up between 550-620
I also have a relative who graduated from bing with a biochem major

would that help at all?

Yeah I think that would help alot...
but I heard that this year...your year...they will start counting the writing section which puts more pressure on you...I don't know how thats gonna work

good luck tho...

give your verbal a shot into the 500s......you'll get in that way.

binghamton deff cares more about sat score than gpa (heard it from a bing admissions officer). So, you really need a 1250 to feel safe. I know a kid with ur stats but with a 1250 who got in ea. Right now, your sats really hurt your chances

My son got deferred from Bing then rejected. His stats were a 89 GPA unweighted and a 1250 SAT out of 1600. He did a pretty decent essay and had lots of EC's. Yes, his overall GPA is lower than were it needed to be, but with a 1250 I thought he would have had a shot, but it didn't matter.

Since you are a junior I would work on trying to get your GPA up into around the 92 - 94 range and shoot for a 1300 SAT...then I think its a lock.

My son is going to go to Albany...he was accepted there and to Stony Brook without any problem. He decided against Stony Brook because the campus empties out on the weekend.

ba3452, that's a VERY bold statement. I find that hard to believe.....

RichNY: Did your son choose a tough major such as science? If so, then I think that is the reason he was rejected. Binghamton accepts students with even 85 averages just to lower programs... A Bio/Pre-Med is where a lot of people are heading. The highest scorers in the applicant pool most of the time are Pre-med so maybe that's why.

ba3452: I agree with your info. This may be the case due to Binghamton's stellar national reputation. The higher out-of-state tuition is needed and their admissions advisors are not familiar with many schools outside of New York state, therefore the SAT I is the great equalizer. This is, however, just my opinion.

Are we talking about the same Binghamton? Don't get me wrong, Binghamton is a great school and within the state, it's reputation is great (including NYC). I will most likely be attending here too. But stellar national reputation? That's a bit of an overstatement

No major was choosen...another words, he was coming in as an undecided...no specialty programs. When we went for the open house a while back we were told (by an advisor) that unless he was a 90+ student there was little shot of him getting in because of the increased competition from both inside and outside the U.S.

I graduated from Harpur College in 1974. When I applied to grad school, SUNY Binghamton did have a stellar reputation, and I was admitted to Princeton and University of Virginia.

Since the caliber of students seems to have increased over the years, I imagine that the Binghamton reputation must have stayed up there.

Maybe your grades got you into those schools, ever think of that? I know Binghamton is a great school, but just because a few kids a year go to Ivy for grad from Bing does not give it a stellar NATIONAL reputation. Please don't get me wrong, Bing is a REALLY good school, very well known in the tristate area and in the northeast. But nationally known is a overstatement and I believe most grads would attest to that.

Binghamton is not very readable admissions wise. I got a 1440/1600 on SATS and had a 3.8 gpa from a top highschool. I was admitted to the honors program at the university of michigan and was rejected from Binghamton.

Were you in-state?
