1ST GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENT
LOW INCOME FAMILY

SAT I- 1700-1800 TAKING THEM 6/2
SAT II'S TAKING THEM OCT

Definitely get a higher SAT I score than that, and make sure you have a couple 700+ SAT II scores. Your GPA is also very low for Berkeley standards. Are you an underrepresented minority?

wow, how did you get it to come out in capslock? i'm genuinely interested.

azure, the op is an underrepresented minority: "1ST GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENT, LOW INCOME FAMILY." that should hopefully have as much weight as being from an underrepresented minority ethnic group, right?

URM status is not even considered in admissions decisions.....being low income and first generation helps, but not even close to as much as URM helps at a private

your GPA is really not to Berk standard and the C's look really bad unless you have a very good reason and since the are all from basic math classes
(4.17 weighted for class of 2011)

as big public schools, they don't care that much about your essay, mainly numbers, since they have to read about 60 thousand applications

and your SAT won't help you either, its way below the average acceptance (2009 for the class of 2011)

your EC are sufficient, but they are not weighted nearly as much as the SAT and GPA.

definitely a reach, but still not impossible

its not impossible, but most likely not.. your sat isnt your main detriment, i mean i got 1970 after 3 tries, but i started off at 1700 like you, but i think what hurts you is definitely your gpa... i guess by bringing your sat score way up it might help though cause your ECs are super good!

Catel- Best Buddies is an organization that helps students with mental and phisical disabilities, through various activities and group interactions with the "normal" students.

** What department are you applying to? I got a friend who applied for something related to biology and medicine and got in with 1900, asian status, 3.86 in weighted GPA, top 20%, probably because of his passionate ECs.

The president of University of California - Berkeley defended his university's action. That is, he only cares about ability, not diversity. I don't know whether that is true, but I saw that on 世界日報 North American edition recently. I don't think your URM status will work in the admission process at U of C - Berkeley. **

start thinking of UCLA or UCSD, my friend. Lots of friends with similar stats got into SD, some to LA.

Only one AP??? Man, I took 3 during Junior Year and 5 this year. Not a lot but it is definitely not just 1. GPA W 4.2 . Try taking classes at a community college during your summer, then get into as many APs as you feel comfortable, preferably more than 3. Raise your SAT goals to 2000 at the very least and prepare/take 4+ SAT 2s and do well in them. Keep taking college classes during your senior year. 2-3 per semester.

Not much time left for you to fix your academics. Feasible, though.
BTW, KICK AAAAASSSSSSSSS in your essays!!!!!!!! They REALLY, REALLY, REALLY do read your essays. It's one of the most important parts of the application, regardless of what some might say.

Apply for the Alumni Scholarships. BOTH. there's the Achievement Award Program and the Leadership Award. First is $5,500/year, the other $2500 (must renew every year).
