I have a 3.0/4.0 weighted GPA (terrible I know, but I have an increasing grade trend at least)
This translates to an 83 I think.
My junior year I averaged about a 90 across the board.

My first SAT was an 1870:
M: 600, CR: 650, W: 620

My second was an 1860:
M: 630, CR: 680, W: 550

I did terrible on both essays (7).
My best scores total a 1930 for SAT's.

My school doesn't have a class rank for some stupid reason.

I have applied early action.

I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get in thanks to my pathetic GPA, but I'm trying anyways. Any advice would be appreciated.

Edit: Forgot about EC stuff.

On my application, I put:
I'm in two clubs for my senior year, work a part time job at restaurant, and do Martial Arts. I have done web development for two companies during my high school career.

I'm pretty sure I wrote a good - great essay.

haha...first of all which school in binghamton are you applying to? harpur (arts and sciences), Watson (Engineering), or SOM (Business), and your GPA isn't that bad if you're in a very competitive school..I think you have a fairly good chance if you apply to Harpur.

My son had 89 average in HS(I think this is a 3.3?) un-weighted and a 1250 on his SAT out of 1600. He was rejected from Bing. He also was involved with the school newspaper, played varsity tennis and took AP classes. They really wanted to see his average grade into the 90's...that is what one of the advisors told me. He now attends Albany as a Freshman and is very happy there.

Other parents in my kids' school with older kids claim a B average can get you into Bing, but their kids went over five years ago. The standards have gone up considerably in a very short time and last year they stopped taking applications six weeks early. But the caliber of students at all the SUNYs has also gone up.

But DON'T base a decision to apply on what you hear from anonymous posters like me! Look at the stats on the SUNY website and your school's Naviance scattergrams if they have them.

Here you go...this will give you an overview of min. requirements. I would also suggest you get in touch with the school to show them your interest.

My son was very close to the GPA min but I guess not close enough...but he was well over the SAT minimum.

But as to the OP, it all depends on your essay, and your letters of recommendation and what the RD pool is like. But I would say Bing would be a bit of a reach, though maybe... maybe.

Oldman - Over the last few years, bing has become more and more selective. Though to my knowledge, it has always been a fairly decent school. But nowadays, you need at solid 90 average (at least), about a 1200 SAT, and decent ec's, average essay...etc.

okay thanks...i like how ppl call me old man when im a highscool junior....so chaos with a 92.5 average and a 1300 sat and kinda crapy ec's but a pretty good essay should get me in

Hey Oldman, looking at what you have and what I was admitted with... I'd say you have a great chance, just write killer essays, and the like. Also make sure you've got a challenging courseload and try to gain more leadership positions. You know... improve what you've got

Well, like people have said, your freshman admission odds don't look wonderful, but that doesn't mean you can't eventually go to Binghamton if it's really your number one choice.

With my brother, he actually did very poorly in high school, and he missed graduation by a half a credit. He got a GED, went to BCC, he worked really really hard, and got almost straight A's for two years. Then he applied for transfer to Binghamton, and he got into the computer science program (with a small scholarship, actually).

Just for reference, I believe he applied and was accepted in '04-'05.
