oh and I have 8 AP courses and many GT/honors courses and I am probably in the top 50 percent of my class.
my school is pretty competitive so I’m not sure if I am in top 25 percent

Your gpa is low and class rank is too, but your SAT is strong. Everybody needs to remember that already in the news they are stating that many universities are going to break their records for applicants this yr. I would believe UMD will too since last yr they broke their past record. The number they admit does not change, so if the pool gets bigger the competition will become harder. Also many kids when the economy was better would have probably accepted a private or OOS University prior to UMD, but now the cost is a motivating factor in where they apply to.

Applications for enrollment to the university are up again this year, a slight increase from last year’s numbers, which Undergraduate Admissions Director Shannon Gundy once described as “ridiculously high.”

The overall applicant pool is up 1.5 percent, she said, with out-of-state applications up 2.2 percent and in-state applications down 1 percent. As of the Dec. 1 priority deadline, overall, there have been 23,842 applications. Last year, there were 23,570 at the deadline.

G bless you, we need economists, but that whole widget and gidget think made me cry. WHen I took Econ for Masters, my prof was great…widget and gidgets were gone and he replaced it with beer and pretzels…now that made it easy for me.
