my chances

My UW GPA-3.2
W-3.8

SAT-
Math-690
Critical Reading-600
Writing-650

Out of state resident (MD)

Major: Not too sure, I put Economics

Extra-curriculars
Lot of volunteer work in tutoring
Policy Debate- Captain and Ranked in the state
Track-Quit after freshmen and soph year

I mean I don't have too many extra-curriculars but I spend a lot of time behind debate. Really made me quit everything else.

I applied before the priority deadline

I have 8 AP courses and many GT/honors courses and I am probably in the top 50 percent of my class.
my school is pretty competitive so I'm not sure if I am in top 25 percent

You are in

Hard to say. Someone's son in the other thread with 4.23 wgpa and a 1190/1600 1720/2400 got rejected from DUS.

i think you can get in. the person that lil_killer was talking about had a lower SAT score, so i think the admissions people thought that the GPA was unfairly weighted. i mean, if you have a 4.23 weighted, i dont see how you can get under 1800 on your SAT.

anyways, i'd say you have a great shot.

found out from the guidance counselor that psu plugs in the weighted gpa into a formula and comes up with a "number" in order to balance out all the applicants and how their h.s. weighs grades. so the 4.23 wasn't taken at face value. the bubble chart can't be trusted. :-)

your stats aren't bad but your extracurriculars leave something to be desired. good luck though!

I got in with very similar stats to yours, your SATs are actually 20 pts higher in total. good luck

yishyosh, honestly, it is very tough to compare SATs and UW/W GPAs. Many students are horrible test takers yet rank in the top 10% of their classes and take many AP/Honors courses and succeed.

that may be true in a efw, but i'd still say that it isnt exactly 'many' students who are good at AP classes that are horrible test takers, its more like a rare few. I mean, how can you do well in an AP class and end up in the top 10% if you cant test well? there are tests in AP classes too.
Also, AP and Honors courses arent really to be compared at most schools, AP tests are far tougher than any honors classes at my school. i think its hard to compare and contrast because every high school is different, but that has been my experience and what i have heard from my friends at other schools.
