My Chances

Hi guys, I posted this thread before simply about one college, and now I feel I might as well ask for your opinions for a few schools I have been looking at. I will be attempting to get into the film programs at these schools, so my video will also be looked at, but just tell me what you think excluding my video.

Grades and Academics
- About 3.8 GPA Freshman through Junior Year (Still a junior but will probably have about the same for senior year)
- Three AP classes and six Honors (all available honors except for two)
- Was the first student at my high school to ever take an online AP class
- Taken five math classes as opposed to usual required three
- Taken 4.5 sciences as opposed to usual required three
- Four years of Spanish as opposed to usual required three
- Enrolled in two college classes already (one sophomore year and one junior year) and received an A in both class (4.0 College GPA) I will also be taking a third class this summer
- Received a 1950 on PSATs and expect a similar if not better score on the SATs

Extra Curricular

- Been member of the non-profit group Operation Friendship for four years, in which I volunteered to raise money for European teenagers to stay in the US and learn of our culture.

- Future member of Senior Leaders
- Elected as my school’s only representative to attend student government day in the state house in Boston.

- Created an hour long movie with two other students in school to raise money for my class.
- Volunteered over ten hours for ‘Worcester State College’s Annual Auction for the Homeless’ in both 2008 and 2009.
- Spent a day with students working with the ‘YOUniversity’ company to film a promotional video about Worcester State College.
- Attended a tour of Emerson and Emerson’s ‘Junior Day.’
- Petitioned to create an Ultimate Frisbee team at my High School, although a coach was never found.
- Am in the process of writing a novel, with 90 pages completed so far.
- Taking a Senior Independent Study next year
- Will have extremely good recommendations from the teacher who wrote Creative Writing Curriculum along with me

Schools:

Emerson (Top Choice)
Bennington College
Qunnipiac
NYU
Ithaca
Temple

Thanks for any feedback!

You’re looking at a $5K+ scholarship a year to Temple

Excellent chances at Emerson, Bennington, Ouinnipiac, Ithaca and Temple.

Thanks for the feedback guys

NYU seems to be the only reach on your list.

If you could get your SAT score up, you’d be looking at any even better merit scholarship from Temple.

How important do you guys feel that application videos are? I’m confident mine will be pretty good but I’ve been wondering what people think. Thanks for the feedback

If anyone else has any input it’d be greatly appreciated, thanks.

bumpppppppppppppp

I think if you work on your SAT to 2300, you would have an excellent shot at a top 15 college. A few important things to include might be your race and whether or not your GPA is weighted or UW.

I’m a white male and I believe my GPA is unweighted. Thanks for the info though. 2300 is pretty high, I’ll work on it but it seems like a long shot.

I would apply to more schools.

my dad taught at Temple for 4 years, and I lived in Philly for the same amt of time, so I think I can say with a good deal of confidence that you have a very very good shot there
i dont personally know much about the other schools, but i think NYU is the only really high reach you’ll have to aim for. your ECs are good, your GPA is solid…the only thing hurting you is your SAT score. aim for +2000, 2050 - 2150 would be a very good range and probably guarantee you admission into most of the places you’re looking at
GL! and chance me back if you have time? :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah I assume that I’ll get a 2000+, because I got a 1950 with no studying at all on the PSATs. I’m taking the SATs in June and will be solidly studying the whole time. Thanks for the input.

Bump. I’d really appreciate any other feedback, thanks.

I think that the only reach on your list is NYU, and I think that you could expand your list if you wanted, but it’s a good list nonetheless! :)

Could you chance me back, please?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/699897-am-i-track-ivies-duke-wake-vanderbilt-3.html

You are definitely in at Temple, Ithaca, and Quinnipiac, they could be safeties for you. I think you should add another match school and keep NYU as a reach and add another reach school.

Yeah thanks I just have trouble finding schools that offer exactly what I want. Even all the schools already on my list don’t do that. I will keep looking but I’ve been having a hard time. Thanks though

bump, thanks everyone

nyu, no way… the others… in like flint
