My Chances?!?

Do you guys think I have a chance at getting in here?
I’ve been wanting to go here for a while now but i don’t know if my grades from last year are gonna hold me back…

what do you guys think?

GPA: 3.62/top 10% of class (my school isn’t very high achieving)
SAT: math-780
cr- 600
writing-720

I’ve got quite a few extracurriculars and awards including:
-jv basketball (team captain and MVP)
-varsity basketball
-jv track and field (2nd place high jump all league)
-varsity track and field (3rd place high jump all league)
-boy scouts
-calculus club
-honor roll A’s/B’s
-honor roll A’s
-over 100 hrs community service
-etc.

21.4789534653% chance

mmmm, 58.3948% I think.

In case you were still wondering, we’ve given up on trying to “chance” people on this forum.

Are you competitive? Sure.
Are 10,000 other people competitive? Yes.
Are any of us on the Admissions Board? No.
Do we know exactly what they’re looking for? Only to a certain extent.
Do we know enough about you to make any sort of informed judgment? Nope.

Work hard, submit your package, and hope for the best. I can promise you that your admission status won’t be affected at all by our predictions or lack thereof. The waiting sucks, sure, but that’s something you’re going to have to get used to. Welcome aboard.

20.10% for sure

eagle, you’ve got to quit rounding down, give these kids a little bit of hope!

All I have to say is you have a 100% chance of NOT receiving an appointment if you don’t apply!

I think a percentage like 20.13% would probably give bskballer a little more hope wouldn’t you say? ;)

thanks for the input guys…

do any of you attend or plan on attending the academy?

All of us.

(<— Post 1111, by the way. Top that for class pride.)

petko, are you already attending or are you planning on it in the future?

most of us here are already here. eagle, hornet, petko, raimus, missmuff, myself, and tons others. search the forums, there’s alot of good info here that we’ve said a million times

petko, eagle, and hornet are all current cadets.

semper, packermatt and myself are appointees meaning we’ll be heading out there in just over a month for a summer full of ‘fun’.

On this forum, there are also other prospective applicants, more cadets and appointees, parents of cadets, even an ALO (Admission Liaison Officer) will show up every now and then.

Just remember if you have any question about USAFA, ask away. Just don’t ask about your chances because almost everyone (i think i did at one point too) asks that so most of us have quit caring about answering that honestly because it’s impossible to tell for the reason that the Academy uses the Whole Candidate Score system.

So with that, your chances will be better if you continue to bust your butt.
Good luck, and hope all the best for you.

so for those of you who are already attending…how’s the academy life? what’s been your biggest obstacle so far?

and for anyone else whos been accepted…do you have any advice for the application process?
im currently working on my congressional nomination.

any info is greatly appreciated…thanks

I absolutely love USAFA life. So many opportunities and friends, its an amazing experience. Would do it all over again. I graduate next May, so I’ll be a firstie (senior) next year along with raimius and eagle.

Biggest obstacle? Water survival (aka, water haze).

hornetguy, that’s cool how you graduate next year…you’ll be graduating from the academy and i’ll be graduating from high school haha
hopefully i can be in your position in five years…

so what do you plan on doing after you graduate? are you going to go into pilot training?

Hopefully I’ll be heading off to grad school (preferably in England!) then to pilot training.

hey hornet, did you swim before water haze? cuz you swim now, right?
i’m worried…lol.

i love the academy as well. sure it had its moments, but i enjoy it. that being said, i have friends at ROTC detachments you love it as well. here in Eglin (where i’m doing summer research) the academy grads tend to be happy they went to USAFA, the ROTC grads glad they went their route. it’s all about what works for you.

i also want to go to grad school (but not in England) then go to UPT.

missmuff, I do swim now. Don’t want to waste all that o so fun class for nothing.

but you didn’t before that class?
