My chances?

I'm sorry this is also in the West Point section, but I'm also interested in applying for the Naval as well.

Hi I'm currently an Asian junior in a New York City Public School and I have an extreme interest in attending West Point for my future. I'll try to list every spec about me and if you guys could help me on what I need to improve until the time being, that would be great.

Current GPA : 91, working towards at least a 93 until the end of Junior Year (Seems reasonable from my perspective). Oh and I starting from this year I've realized the importance of school and my English and Psychology classes are both AP. The rest (US History, Pre-calculus, Spanish 5) are all honors except for Physics. So I think I have a fair chance of reaching that 93 or possibly 94.

SATs: Never took an official SAT, however I've been attending SAT classes for the past year or two and took some practice ones very similar to the official ones. Few months ago I achieved at 1810 and I'm working towards a 1900-2000 (again, reasonable) which I'll be taking 2 or 3 times, starting from March. I'm not planning on taking the ACT.

Extra Curricular: Volunteered at a Korean Community Service center (Government funded). Continuously help in my church community. (My father's a pastor). No school clubs (Maybe I should consider joining one). Will be trying out for the school's Varsity Volleyball team the next month. I am in my school's leader program.

I'm pretty fit overall, height: 5 feet 7 inches. Weight 158lb. I do work out, however my cardiovascular is very weak though I'm working on it. I get tired too easily, but I'm working towards it, for the CFA. As of right now, I can say that I'm in the average or possibly a bit lower than average, compared to the average statistics. However, I know I have some months which I'll be doing some hardcore training.

Although I'm not a US Citizen right now, my parents will be taking the Exam on October of 2010, so even though I would be applying as a non-citizen, I can attend (if I'm offered) WP since I'll get my citizenship in time. However the problem is I really want to attend the SLS program for my 2010 summer. However, my parents told me that they'd be doing their exam on September of 2010 at earliest (I receive citizenship automatically if they receive). So is there any possible way that I can either get my citizenship quicker or still attend the SLS without a citizenship?

Also, my school guidance counselors and college advisers don't really tell me much about how to get a Nomination. So if anyone could tell me exactly and specifically what I can do to get one (or more).

And also, I've read that they consider class rank. If this doesn't mean school rank, what can it mean? For what specific class?

That's all I can think of for now. I'll post some more questions if I have. Thanks in advance.

I don’t speculate in probability threads however your citizenship question bears some discussion. I think that the law for both academies simply requires citizenship by induction day. However, you will need a nomination from congressmen and they may have a sooner deadline. Also, the Academy may be willing to hold an appointment longer for a stellar candidate while a marginal might be let go so the class can be filled sooner.

Check with both academies and all three congressmen, explaining your exact situation. Start buttering up your parents as to the possible necessity of moving up their citizenship schedule. And as a last resort, there is always the following year.

And you might come across as more serious, especially with the academies’ application process, with a more professional user name.

Search the threads where people have exhaustively discussed most of your questions.

Class rank = where you stand in your sophomore class (or whatever year you are). That is 1 of 250, top ten percent, etc.
