Should I apply ID, ED, reg to improve my chances? (maybe just forget applying here at all?)

It looks like you should easily get into Rice. It is not as competitive as any of the ivies and you look like a top student. In fact I want to apply to Rice as well and if i am going against people like you I don't think that I will stand a chance.

youve got as good a chance as anyone...

but!

what is your unweighted GPA
and

your EC's are a LITTLE, not much, but a LITTLE weak.

I got worse EC than you do and I got in, I think they let me in because they fell in love with my rec. letters, I had amazing teachers by the way. So write forgettable essays, be yourself, if the school thinks you would be a good fit for Rice, they'll accept you. Apple ED, because if you are not accepted, then you can apply reg, and use the time in between to contact the school and find out what you can do to improve your chance.

You can really apply again if you get rejected ED? Do you have to pay another fifty dollars it seems like a waste of money unless you go from a 1500 to 2400 SAT. I like Gerogetown where if you don't get accepted Early Action they will just roll your application over to regular and review it again.

I'm not so sure, but I was planning on doing something like that. think of it this way, if you applied ED, you'd know the answer by Christmas, that would leave you enough time to do a bit of investigating and find out exactly what part(s) of your app. is the culprit (i.e. talk to the school, visit, fester them ...) and fix the app. so it'd be more appealing. I think that was the advise from one of the admission officers I met last year, can't remember whether it was Rice's officer or not though. Don't really know about the fee, you might want to contact the admission office for that, plus, email might be a good idea since you can include your info in the letter, Rice has a system of grading the prospective students so this would be good for your record. Goodluck.

"...So write forgettable essays..."

=3 Forgettable as in unforgettable I'm sure.
