Depends on the rest of your scores, but I'd say below average chance. Very low leadership. No national recognition. Under-represented state will help you a little, of course you are probably from an urban suburb in Kentucky, so it maynot help that much.

I would have to agree with bandit, you're the common type of applicant. These days, many students have what you have, plus a little extra "something." If we went back a couple decades, I'm sure you would have been a very strong applicant for ivies, but you don't really have anything to stand yourself out with.

I don't think you need to mention the 6 hrs of community service. It's too little to hold any significance, IMO.

Just curious, besides the SAT Scores, how is this app stronger?

Hi,
I'm a US citizen and a permanent resident of CA, currently living and studying in India, and I'm in the second year of my International Baccalaureate program. I wanted to know my chances at MIT, Stanford, Berkeley for a Math or Engineering (undecided at this point, more likely math major) major: (ANY OTHER COLLEGES HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR MATH?)

IB Score = 40 (3 7's in HLs 1 7 and 2 6's in SL)
(I don't know how to convert this score to a GPA)

SAT I: 1490/2230
Math 800
Critical Reading 690
Writing 740 (with 9 in essay)
(***SHOULD I GIVE THE SAT AGAIN?)

ACT: 33 composite with 12 in writing (essay)

SAT II:
Math IIC 800
Physics 800
Chemistry 800

Extra curriculars: good. a few varsity sports plus tons of volunteer work, and leadership positions in school clubs.

I also have NMS recognition, member of NSHSS and Who's Who. Please advise on what I should do - any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kishore

No the other person would have the average probability of acceptance (9% i think). Who's who is complete BS (most likely will decrease your probability of acceptance if you list it because you were not intelligent enough to avoid being scammed). Your scores and GPA are fine. What kills you is your EC's. For the most part, they are completely boring and trite - they did not change you and you did not change them. This takes you down to a 6% probability of acceptance. Your essays would have to be killa fa rilla for you to get in.

There aren't really many ways to have "connections" at Harvard. Legacies probably have a 20% probability of acceptance, but that is nowhere near the 95% that you claim. Your clubs are probably the most boring part of your application:

Mu Alpha Theta (2 years)
Speech Team (1 year)
Academic Team (2 years)
French Honor Society (2 years)
Orchestra (4 years)
Math Honors (1 year)
Chess Club (3 years)

They are unoriginal and will not make you stand out. You have small awards, but they are by no means a hook for Harvard. I'm sure that putting "6 hours of community service" on your app would hurt your chances. That is just pitiful - I'm sure I had completed 6 hours of community service by age 7. Some examples of good EC's would be working in some menial place (e.g. fast food restaurant) if the experience changed you in some way, scientific research with a professional, major national competitions (e.g. science, debate, etc.), an interesting and somewhat intellectual hobby, big positions at your school (editor-in-chief of school newspaper, SGA all 4 years with lead roles throughout), major roles in community service organizations. By applying to Harvard, you will be competing with the best of the best.

For one of the essays, you should write about music if that is your passion - that is probably the best thing that you have going for you. Also, your chances are higher if Kentucky is a stupid state, which I assume it is.

GF -- 3 SAT IIs with 800s makes a big difference, but CA hurts some.

The biggest thing you need to be able to answer is "what have I accomplished". This has almost nothing to do with grades and scores. Even leadership positions are meaningless if you didn't do anything with them.
