I am currently going to be entering my junior year of high school next month, I know my gpa is pretty low right now, but if i get straight A's my junior year will i be able to get in? I've taken honors classes since freshman year, and i'm taking AP classes this year. The reason my gpa is so low is because i didn't do so well in Honors Bio + Chemistry, and I got a C+ in both classes..

Don’t forget that your ACT scores also come into play along with your essays.

I myself had a rough start as well. I started freshman year with a 3.1 gpa and ended senior year with a 4.2 gpa, a great improvement. Along with a 29 on the ACT and look I got into their chemical engineering program. They see these kinds of things and see that you are well-motivated.

Ok, here is your hope, from experience my high school did not prepare me academically enough for college. The beginning of my HS years, was great then I had lost my mom and my grades went low and I was doing awful but towards senior year I really picked up by joining different clubs like student government, student apprentice and dance groups. I was also in JROTC and received many awards. I thought I wasn’t going to get in into U of I but I did. My ACT score sucked but I took it twice and improved. Also make sure you apply early before the regular date because you have a higher chance at getting in if so. I did so. I applied the day before the deadline of the priority ap was due and I got a letter a few weeks later saying I am in. Tell them about your ups and downs and what motivates you to want to succeed. Also tell them was hinders you in detail so they get a chance to understand you. They are listening. Use that in your personal statement/essay. Anymore questions feel free to ask. amber.lcharles@gmail.com

Getting in is also highly dependent on what major you hope to pursue. For instance, if you want to get into engineering, you will need very high stats, but if you are looking to do something like English, it will be much easier (not meant as a knock on English majors).
