GPA- 3.24
Rank- Middle 50% of around 530
Sports- Baseball, Volleyball
Jewish
SATs- 1710 (I know, low.)
ACT- 25 Composite, 27 on the Math/Reading Sections, 26 on Writing. Math and Science Kiled me.

I have been a camp counselor for 2 years.

NROTC/AROTC Scholarship Candidate.

Pretty fair chance you will get in, though your SAT is probably the only thing that could hold you back. I’m Jewish; it doesn’t help you out. You need to be black or Hispanic for it to help you out. They’re over-quota for whites, Asians, and Jews.

It does make a difference, however, if you are out-of-state. They want more out-of-state students to increase their appeal and recognition, as well as the extra tuition $$.

You would have been a sure bet ten years ago, but now it is really competitive.

You’re on the fence/waitlisted.

ACT is in the bottom quartile: middle 50% is 26-31

Class Rank is in the bottom tenth: 52% in top tenth/90% in top quarter

I’m not familiar with ACT scores, so I guess that would be a problem per what Lenny said.

After taking a year off after high school to work in marketing, I got in with:

GPA: 2.97
SAT: 2120
Bottom 20% of my class rank
“Jewish”, out of state (NYC)
A few EC’s, nothing spectacular, no charity work though
EDIT: Oh yeah, AP Gov: 5, AP US History: 5

Alright, thanks guys.

Also, does it make a difference in what major I am doing? I plan on majoring on Chemical Engineering, if that helps my chances at all.

you would go in as pre-engineering b/c you don’t apply to a specific program until soph year i think. my guess is it would only hurt you typically because engineering is tough. i may be wrong though

Alright, also if it helps:

After Senior Year, I will have taken:
10 Semesters of Math (1 honor, 1 AP)
8 Semesters of Academic English
8 Semesters of Science (All Labs)
6 Semesters of Language
6 Semesters of Academic History
2 Semesters of AP Psychology
8 Semesters of Electives

If you are in-state you will likely get in or be deferred till March, and then probably get in. If you are out of state you will be waitlisted most likely. I have a friend who was 29 ACT (30 Superscored) with high marks of 26 Math, 28 Science, 33 English and 34 Reading. Plus national medal in sports, Houston city wide debate trophy, medal in language. But his gpa was 3.1 which as at 52% percentile of class rank. He was OOS and waitlisted till late April.

GPA and class rank are clearly a very big part of the criteria. There is likely a formula that combines the test scores with GPA and class rank.
