Glad to hear you’re interested in W&M for ED.

Do you by chance go to the Commonwealth Governor’s School. That looks like one of their curriculums which are truly impressive.

Sounds like you have a lot of great academic and personal qualities to lend to campus and we’d encourage you to apply to W&M. We always caution students that we are selective and therefore some great students do not get in but you are certainly someone we would view as competitive.

Do share with us your experience as a first-generation student and utilize the parts of the application that ask about your cultural and language backgrounds.

Keep in mind that the next ACT date likely won’t return scores in time to be considered during ED so your current score may be all we can evaluate.

Also note that admission rates are higher during ED because the pool is 1000 instead of 12,000. It’s easier to stand out in a pool of 1000 so if W&M is your first choice and your family realizes they will not be able to compare scholarship/financial aid packages from several schools, definitely apply ED. It can only be to your benefit.

Good luck!

Thank You very muhc for your reply.

Firstly, should i state that i’m a first generation student in my application or the essay or personal statement? I don’t go to Governor’s school, i applied once though. I moved here in 8th grade and i took ESOL till 9th grade of highschool. Can there be any chance of trends since i moved from ESOL to AP English.
What would you think of my overall chances of W&M ED.
I’m top 10% of my class.
Also, can i submit 2 teacher recommendations or you just accept one?

Royalman, I’m going to try to address your questions one at a time.

Firstly, should i state that i’m a first generation student in my application or the essay or personal statement?

Answer: This will come out in the application because there’s a section that asks for parents’ educational information. If you’re also a first-generation American that can make for a good essay topic.

Can there be any chance of trends since i moved from ESOL to AP English.

Answer: I’m not sure what you mean by “chances of trends”

What would you think of my overall chances of W&M ED.

Answer: We can’t give you a statistic or a percentage chance of your admission because we haven’t reviewed your application but the admission rate during early decision is generally in the upper forties.
I’m top 10% of my class.

Also, can i submit 2 teacher recommendations or you just accept one?

Answer: You can submit 2 teacher recommendations but more than that gets a bit excessive. We encourage you to have at least one of the teachers be someone from an academic subject.

Hope this is helpful.
