My Christmas List

ummm...no?
but I think social issues are more important; they impact my life more.

who, exactly, is misusing the tax dollars?

socialists like yourself who think making "programs" and giving money away is going to help

I think a lot of welfare-users abuse tax-dollar usage...

oh, you're right - republicans like bush are doing a FANTASTIC job keeping americans off the streets, with secure jobs and enough money to survive.

they should just get jobs right? hahaha such a trashy, upper middle class attitude towards life.

oh no, legendofmax - the welfare abuse myth? thats got to be the oldest one in the book - as if they WANT to be on welfare.

funny. and maybe thats why black teenagers have babies, because they want the welfare benefits, right?

your argument is inherently racist...im disgusted

yes, actually, i think his no child left behind act is a step in the right direction. showering the poor with money just doesn't work. you've got to get at the root of the problem, not handouts. (that being said, I support welfare. i think it would be horrible to take it away, because the children need it.) i'm talking more along the lines of socialist healthcare and all that horrid stuff that doesn't work ever

ilcapo: There are those who are on welfare out of pure laziness. It's not a matter of desire sometimes... I once knew a few people who actually were like this. Uber-leg injury? Suuure thing...

Oh yeah well I bet you're assuming women want welfare because of babies too, no? You sexist!

democrats don't want socialist healthcare. a pure right wing exaggeration.

and no one is "showering the poor with money" - i work with welfare recipients every day, trust me.

statistics show that average welfare benefits pay below the poverty line and less than a full-time job. research overwhelmingly proves that welfare recipients prefer work to welfare. the general accounting office has reviewed over 100 studies on welfare and concluded that welfare does not significantly diminish the incentive to work.

the two largest welfare programs -- by far -- are Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) and food stamps. in 1992, the average yearly AFDC family payment was $4,572, and food stamps for a family of three averaged $2,469, for a total of $7,041. in that year, the poverty level for a mother with two children was $11,186.

thus, these two programs paid only 63 percent of the poverty level, and 74 percent of a minimum wage job.

so for christmas i'd definately like....oh wait did the topic change?

lol hahhaa awesome streetlight; join the party =)

(if you don't like discussing welfare, u can probably find a discussion of bulimia, languages or preppiness on other threads here)

cool ilcapo :) You've totally changed my mind!

lol zant amen. none of what we talk about is what the thread started out as

let's just say it straight -----

i'm greedy and i want my money for myself, i don't want to give half of it up in taxes for the gov't

my great-grandmother on one side was a servant in a huge mansion on lakeshore, so if she worked her so her family could move on up (one generation later my grandmother fell in love with a man who eventually became a wealthy lawyer) i don't see why other people can.

i'm all for privatization of everything - my parents own their own practice, so they pay medical benefits for us and all their employees. i think it'd be better if they just included the money for their employees' benefits in their paychecks and just let the employees pay themselves.

one other political wank - i don't think my family's money should have to pay for the social/economic equalization of america. social darwinism, anyone?

ready to run for cover from firebomb responses

I want a glass of eggnog for christmas. Anyone here like eggnog? It's not bad but it feels so thick... and if you drink too much you'll just love the feeling you'll get deep down inside your heart once you read the nutritional information on the carton. Or maybe that feeling in your heart is that of arteries clogging, but I could be wrong...

i'm just playin with you guys. just came upon the thread about christmas lists and i read about everything maybe except christmas. i'm up to talk about anything actually even though i am likely not to apply to princeton. haha am i still welcome on princeton grounds?

no of course not get the hell out u unwanted fruit...hmm what an insult

of course ur allowed welcome to pton board the gryffindor of the ivies :D mwa ha ha what a lame analogy time to shut up now

gracilisae i wholeheartedly agree

gracey! your great-grandmother didnt work her way up, she ing married her way up ***

haha the only reason i'm probably not applying to princeton is because i wanna get the hell out of jersey
