AP classes:
history, 109% in class 2 on the test
bio, 106% in the class 4 on the test (happy with it)
calc ab, 109% in the class 2 on the test

I have some personal issues with two of these scores. I really thought i did better in history. As for calc, I'm the fifth person from my school to ever receive higher than a 1 since the current calc teacher started working at my highschool; personal happiness.

Even though I'm pleased with 2/3 of my scores, 2's look like crap. I'm applying to Duke, UPenn, Rice, Rochester, Gettysburg, Boston U, and Gannon U. Are my chances for the first three completely out the window because of this inconsistency? or can I compensate for the low scores with the fact that my other attributes are pretty solid?

wow..... can you say major grade inflation. Seriously, you don;'t need to send your scores. I understand why you're upset, but don't stress about it. Your chances are not out the window whatsoever.

Yeah.. I'm becoming notorious for poor standardized tests.. 1220 CR+M on the SAT won't cut it for my top three either... I honestly worked my ass off for my grades but I have nothing to show now...

hmm, this is a tough situation for you. If you do report, your 2s will look like that your teachers inflated your grades but selectively reporting your AP grades does not look that great too (They will wonder why you didn't/are holding back your grades for calc and history). I would say self report them all and hope for the best.

"I'm the fifth person from my school to ever receive higher than a 1 since the current calc teacher started working at my highschool" - no offense but that just screams grade inflation/horrible teacher

You're probably gonna have a hard time getting in because they'll see that you took the AP classes and wonder where your test scores are and then assume you did bad. Yeah, I agree with the others. Your teachers/school is probably subpar so you better make it up with some good extracurriculars.

Unweighted I would've 99%'s. I really worked for those too...

Calculus I'm not even mad about... My teacher hasn't produced a student capable of more than a 3 in the four years he's worked. One student got a 3 last year and three other's got a 2. Everyone else got a 1, the past three valedictorian's included... History, however, is something I pride myself in knowing alot about and I still screwed it up.

Yep. Teacher is definetly not up to his job. We had a teacher who had an 80% pass rate on her AP calc AB and BC exams. Too bad she retired half way through my freshman year... Now I've got a guy who's using his classes as practice on "how to get your students to know their stuff". I know I'm sounding whiney but I don't know what else to do... I never slacked in that class.. any class. I got a 99% unweighted in that class. ugh...

You guys can't say for sure there's grade inflation. Maybe the teacher taught Jefferson as the first President or the derivative as the integral.

Only regarding calculus since I didn't take history, but... did you put forth any extra effort to study or review beforehand, or did you give up and let your teacher's history dictate your score?

hahaha not sure if that was supposed to be sarcasm or straight up humor, but it made me feel better. my history teacher.. err student teacher turned actual teacher due to random crap... actually had one of his friends, who is a fireman, teach us about the depression. i swear on my life that's true.

honestly, the class must have been much easier. being as you kept 99s in the class. not saying you didnt earn the 99's... it just isn't up to par with an ap course.

He gave us a review packet and I did actually use it. But then again, it was constructed by him. My view going into it was, I can't blame it all on the teacher. Looking back on it, in this moment, realizing my failure, I'm gonna say it might be due to his abilities.. or lack thereof.

My 2 cents as a Language teacher at 2 different schools--I value the fact that students posting to CC aren't just about the grade. I hate to see my students looking for As when they can't possibly make a 4 or 5 on the test. Old school-we were pressed to give some As when we knew the kids would BOMB the test. New school-5/70 and that is about what I expect (5s) on the test.

My advice to oli-present yourself in the best possible light, and let them sort it out. There are many factors that weigh into admissions, and you should highlight your best features and explain your faults if necessary (lack of opportunity in your case) in interviews or essays. There is something to students who understand their situations and make the best of it. I am also guessing that you are a junior?? So maybe another round of tests helps you-do additional independent study on your own with some of the other AP material.

yeah btw, dont let your teacher dictate your score.
i come from a school where the highest grade on the statistics exam in the past was a 2. i went online to teach myself statistics and didn't even know there were that many hypothesis tests. (ended up with a 4 on the exam)

no one at my school has gotten above a 3 on ap english language. i just did my work and read as much as i could... despite what everyone says about the teacher.... i ended up with a 4 on the exam.

no one in my school ever takes subject tests... my 790 on the chem was like unheard of. people flipped and thought iwas a genius.

just dont let your school dictate you. in the end you cant just say "well my school didn't prepare me well enough" because thats bs.... thats why i prepped for this stuff. because in the end if i were to get a 1 i would look dumber than my school.

Glad to know someone can motivate themselves to do better...
To be perfectly honest, I'm not dissapointed in myself as much as everyone else would be. I earned some 2's, that's fine. It's just that everything else about me is up to par in my opinion and two little tests are gonna end it. it's not the scores that dissapoint me... only when I compare them to the rest of my resume do I feel discouraged.
