my classes

from what i've been hearing i signed up for a really tough schedule first semester... what does anyone think? my high school was really not competitive, nor did i need to do any work to get straight A's, so my academic preparation is limited.

french 76
polisci 93D
math 25L
lit 20S seminar

I haven’t the foggiest idea if that is difficult of not. It doesn’t seem difficult to me but then again I’m a BME so I really haven’t taken any of those classes.

I think that’s a fine schedule. French will be a lot of busy work. Polisci may be tough. Lit shouldn’t be bad. Math 25L, well, isn’t Math 32L. Don’t worry about it…many people have it tougher than you. If you work hard you’ll do very well.

I would sign up for a free tutor for math. When I was there, you could get one free tutor for math and one free tutor for science. You meet with the tutor once a week for an hour. The tutor usually is an upperclassman and may have even served as a TA; they are very helpful in helping you prepare for quizzes and exams. Come prepared with specific, detailed plans on how you’d like to spend the hour, which will allow you to maximize your time. It’s a free service…can’t beat that.

Students usually wait until October, when they realize they are going to get a C or lower in the class; by that time, all of the free tutors are gone. It’s imperative to sign up for them early in the semester. Ask your PMAC advisor!

Agree with DukeAlumnus2003. Don’t wait until you’re in trouble to ask for help; if you’re struggling so much on each homework that it’s taking a toll on your other classes, seek help. Yes, Math should be challenging, but it will be up to you to realize if it is debilitatingly so.

OP, my D is taking math 25l this semester, and got the heads up about the tutor. How did it turn out?

I haven’t taken these classes, but GradeABase seems to think you’ll have a difficult semester:
