My College Chances???

I am not sure on the final list of schools to apply to, but here's a broad list.

Already applied to: Notre Dame, Michigan, Boston College, Denison.
Still considering: Virginia, North Carolina, Johns Hopkins, Wisconsin, Maryland, Purdue, Penn, Kenyon, Vanderbilt. Possibly some others. I need to narrow my list and want to know my chances at these schools.

ACT
Composite: 33
English: 32
Math: 36

My GPA is 3.75 with mostly honors classes in the core classes. I'm taking 4 APs this year.

My Extracurriculars are pretty good:
Varsity Swimming (4yrs.)
Lacrosse (4yrs, 2 on Varsity)

There are a few other minor activities also.

Thanks for your help!

Johns Hopkins only if you participated in some great thing and did really well on your SAT2’s. Super competitive. If you are not applying for the sciences, I would expect it to be less competitive.

Besides Penn, I think you have a good list. You may want to add one or more safeties to your list though.

Your ACT is good and ec’s are fine for most schools, but the GPA might hurt you at certain schools. This is my guess

In: Michigan, BC, Denison, Michigan, Wisconsin, Purdue, Maryland

Waitlisted: Notre Dame, UNC, Vanderbilt

Denied: Virginia, John Hopkins

and i dont know anything about kenyon so idk. these are just guesses so dont take them too seriously lol. Good luck though

^ As crazed suggested, add one more safety to your list. The schools that you have already applied to are all fairly selective schools and, while they all are within reach, they are not safeties.

Also, I live in Michigan and am looking into studying business.

SAT 2s:
Math2: 750
U.S. History: 670

*Still considering: Virginia, North Carolina, Johns Hopkins, Wisconsin, Maryland, Purdue, Penn, Kenyon, Vanderbilt. *

You have out-of-state publics like Purdue, Wisconsin, and Maryland that don’t give institutional aid to non-residents.

How much will your parents pay each year for your education?

If your parents won’t pay for most/all of these schools’ non-resident costs, then take them off your list.

Is UMich your financial safety school (the school that you know you have all costs covered)?

^ Ditto to Mom2CK. And you should be in at Kenyon (hope you can afford it).

I guess Michigan is my financial safety school. The out-of-state public school don’t cost any more than the private schools and most cost less. I am not thinking about the costs right now, just my chances and where to apply. In the worst case scenario I have a full ride to Denison.

Any suggestions for other schools to apply to?

The out-of-state public school don’t cost any more than the private schools and most cost less.

NOT REALLY. Many privates may cost more on paper, BUT they are also more likely to give you institutional aid to get the cost down to whatever your family can afford. OOS publics aren’t going to do that unless you apply to some that will give you big merit.

I am not thinking about the costs right now, just my chances and where to apply.*

This makes no sense at this stage of the app season. If this were last spring, it would be different. However, the facts are that you have a long list and were asking how to trim it down and THIS IS the application season…right now!

Logically, if a school won’t be affordable, that school should be on the chopping block. Who would want to keep an unaffordable school on their list, and maybe also inadvertently cut an affordable school???

How much will your parents pay each year? If you don’t know ask them.

As for more suggestions…we could come up with more reasonable choices if we knew your financial situation.

The financial costs can be covered for all the schools.

Might look at Holy Cross nice campus with strong business alumni network. HC is 1 hour from Boston and easier to get into than ND.

Indiana (Kelley) - safety

What about USC (calif)?

I’ve thought about Indiana. I think USC is too far away.

Anyone else think of my chances at the list I have?
