Soccer is not only a game, it is a life lesson. I am not only a player, but an educator. I not only learn, I mediate. Having played for 12 years and coached and officiated the game for Four years, I have the unique ability to view the game from all three perspectives. I have ascertained that in any given situation there are several different viewpoints. I now use this information in life to not only better myself as an individual, but to increase my knowledge of the world around me.
While I am officiating I have the perspective of a mediator. I use my knowledge of the game from a player and coach standpoint to help me make decisions on the field. I realize now that when I make a call, not everyone will be in agreement with me. I am able to relate to the situation and explain my self in a professional way because I have viewed the game in every context. I am able to take my experiences from the field, and use them in the real world. Somebody else is always going to see something differently, and by communicating with them I can further understand their point of view. Soccer has become so much more than a game to me, it truly is a life lesson.
As an educator of the game, I discovered that the work you devote to getting better pays off. The players I coach really want to better themselves as players and it shows in practice and games. My freshman year I did not do very well in school. My players were able to show me that in order to get good results, you must put effort in. During my sophomore year, I began to take what I had learned from coaching and apply it to my studies. I finally figured out the effort it takes to not only succeed in school, but in life. I continued this upward trend junior year, and now there is no looking back.
My position as a goalkeeper has leadership responsibilities that no other position has. For 90 minutes I am the leader, constantly communicating with the other 10 men on the field. I can see the entire field, so I must look after my teammates. I must anticipate things before they happen. I have learned that positive communication makes your players work harder. This example always exists in my intended major, the business field. As an executive you must be in control and constantly overseeing your co-workers. If they are not doing their job acceptably, you must tell them, but in a positive way. This can also be applied to when they are working well. You must tell them, otherwise how will they know? As a leader on the field I must set a standard that my fellow teammates admire. This leadership role has brought a sense of maturity to my life, which I believe has helped me grow as an individual and become more independent. At Bryant University my leadership will not only continue on the field, but in the classroom, and on campus.
Soccer has impacted my life more than anything. The game is always there for you. It does not care what you have done or how you did on your test that day. All it asks is that you take what it gives you and use it. I have benefited from everything it has taught me and will continue to. Soccer has always been there for me, and I will always be there for it.

What does success mean to you and how will endicott contribute to your personal, professional, and academic success.

Success goes beyond the stereotypical definition that society has created. To be perceived by society as successful and to be successful are two completely different things. Success is not only having the courage, strength and diligence to work towards your goals, but to appreciate what you have accomplished. Success is being someone people are able to count on. Regardless of the outcome, success is knowing I worked as hard as I could. Orison Swett Marden once said You cannot measure a man by his failures. You must know what use he makes of them. What did they mean to him. What did he get out of them.
Endicott College will contribute to my future academic success, because it has exceptional business courses. In my intended major, Business, I must have the drive and diligence to be successful.
