my college list-need HUGE help

Hi. I'm a high school junior and although I have a year to go, I am freaking out. I need to finish my college applications, do SAT I, SAT II etc... in less than 5 months.
Anyway, I have come up with some schools that I want to apply to.

NYU-stern
U of Chicago
U Mass Amherst
Bentley
U Michigan
Mcgill
Wellesley
U-Penn Wharton

*I want to major in econ/finance

And here is my profile

Dubai, UAE
Very competitive international school, top 10% in the grade (at least, not sure)
SATII physics 690, will take math level2, chem in nov and get around 750+
SAT I-will get 2100+

gr 10-eng B, french B, math A+, chem A+, physics A+, bio A+, econ A+, bus S A+
gr 11-eng A, math A+, chem A/A+(not sure), bio A+, econ A+, bus S A+

I took 6 o levels, got all A's and I will be taking around 5 AS levels next yr.
(my school is a mixture of British and American system)

EC's

this summer, I'm getting a summer job at an educational institute, volunteering at a church to play the piano, taking an Arabic beginners course

I skipped gr 9 (while i was switching from a British school to this one, they somehow messed up my grade..)

I didn't do any sports, because I hate it! But SLO is practically the only functioning club in our school and I am a very active member.

Any thoughts? Am I reaching too high????? Pls help me out.....

Hard to tell without the SAT...

bump... any other thoughts????? if i get around 2100, what are my chances?

I'm not sure I like your list. The best feeders into business beyond Wharton include Dartmouth, Brown, Duke, columbia, Penn (college), Northwestern, HYP, Stanford, williams, Amherst, and a couple others. None of these are on your list...But it all depends on how well you do on the SAT to see if these are possible. A 2100 would make almost all of these high reaches.

Thanks slipper, but the reason why I didnt include them was because I am really not sure whether I will get into ANY of those...

If u like Bentley, I'd throw in Babson. It's a Massachusetts school that seems to be a step up from Bentley.

I'd agree that Babson is a step up. If you want to go into business but aren;t sure about getting into the top econ schools I think the best business schools are a good bet. I would go to schools that allow transferring into the business school during college. You might also consider UNC, UVA, Berkeley (haas), Georgetown, and Emory.

I hope you're not confusing UMass-Amherst with Amherst College. I don't recommend UMass for strong students.

Double-check that you want UChicago. Though you'll hear many members extolling the quality of our econ program, we don't offer a finance option, plus all undergraduates have to take Core classes, which is an intensified version of distribution requirements. Read more about it here:

http://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/level2.asp?id=7

If that excites you, fantastic! If not, don't bother applying-- you won't enjoy your time at the school.

Another school I'd suggest, as long as you're looking for large, prestigious schools, is Cornell-- they have Econ in their Arts and Sciences college, as well as AEM major (from my understanding, it's a finance/accounting major) in their Agriculture school. It's slightly easier to get into the AEM program than the econ program, but either way, you'll get to go to Cornell.

is money going to be an issue as I think the bulk of your list is not need blind to international students and your ability to pay is going to be an issue. NYU offers very little if any aid to international students. Penn tell international students up front that there is very little aid avialable.

sybbie, any schools u want to recommend, that gives aid to int students?

As someone who almost went to UMass, I find that highly insulting. There is absolutely nothing wrong with UMass. Not everything has to be an Ivy. Also, UMass has one of the best (if not THE best) sports managment programs in the country...Dont be an elitist and belittle students like myself or schools just because they arent top 30s or whatever...

I should have said that I don't recommend it to out-of-staters. (The OP is international). It might be a fine choice in-state. Sorry for the insult.

UMass Amherst has the second oldest sport management program in the country and it is recognized as the best program in the country, drawing from a strong national base. UMass Amherst and Cornell are widely regarded as the two best hospitality management programs in the northeast. Finally, Princeton Review just rated UMass Amherst's Isenberg School of Management #1 public university in the country for student satisfaction. The school has become increasingly more selective in recent years and definitely should not be overlooked when considering business.
