Emory University could be a match school for you. It has strong English, creative writing and pre-med programs, and a full symphony orchestra. The main campus is not far from Atlanta, which has easy non-stop flights from the Northeast.
@PiccoloMom1995 I was considering Emory! I may add it to my RD app list if I don’t get in early somewhere else
@MYOS1634 Haha maybe sometime I will add it! I’m keeping an open mind for now but I know my parents definitely wouldn’t be on board with a place like Kenyon sigh
“I know my parents wouldn’t be on board with a place like Kenyon” (#41)
I’m kind of wondering what a place “like Kenyon” is.
@merc81 I am also wondering what kind of “place” Kenyon would be but I know my parents wouldn’t consider it an option. When I say “place like Kenyon” I mean that to my parents, it’s in the middle of the country, very far away from home, and not “prestigious” enough. Hey, that’s my parents’ view – to me, I would like to look at each college objectively and weigh each of their merits, but it’s my parents’ money and it’s partly their decision as well, so I respect that. Kenyon has a great writing program but going there is not the be all end all for me. I’ve got other great options
Just a little more info about Tufts. Its a reach with an acceptance rate of 15% last year. (I personally know of several kids with near perfect stats who were rejected). Spend some time on their website and really get to know as much as you can about the school. They like when people visit; Make an effort to do so. If you can’t, learn as much as you can about the school and talk about what you learned in your essays. Keep in mind they offer ED I and II.
Hey guys! This thread is super old but I wanted to come back and update you guys with my final list:
Rutgers (accepted into SAS and Pharmacy, waiting on merit money/Honors College!)
UPenn (got deferred ED)
UChicago (got deferred EA)
Columbia
Barnard
NYU
WUSTL
Cornell
Johns Hopkins
I’ve applied to all these colleges and now am waiting for decisions in April. Thanks for all your help!
Congratulations on Pharmacy at Rutgers, and I bet you’ll get into Honors College (let us know)!
Will you apply to any other college (with 1/15 or 2/1 deadlines)?
In any case, thank you for the update, it’s much appreciated, and too rare on this forum, but extremely valuable for current juniors. It should be moved to “Lessons learned and Hindsights” and hopefully you’ll update from time to time with scholarship offers, hesitations, visits, and decisions.
@MYOS1634 Thank you! I won’t be applying to anymore new schools, but I will be finishing up a merit scholarship application to WashU by 1/15, the deadline.
I will consider starting a thread in Lessons Learned and Hindsights, or I will continue updating my college journey in the “Class of 2020: Follow the College Journey” thread. Either way, you’ll definitely be hearing more of me and my updates!
^ No, I didn’t mean starting a new thread - I was hoping your (current) thread, if updated with admission results, scholarships, and decision, would be moved to “Hindsights” so that it could be easily found by future readers.
@MYOS1634 Ooh I see what you mean! I will continue to update this thread and the College Journey one. Hopefully this thread will be moved so I can help others in the future!
