My College List

Any opinions/advice on this college list?

Reaches:
1. Stanford (dream school)
2. Princeton
3. Harvard
4. MIT
5. Caltech
6. Yale

Brown, Williams, Columbia
UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD

Where else should I consider applying? I'm thinking of majoring in some science...physics? applied? No clue yet. Should I also apply to Cornell and Dartmouth? Thanks for your help!

If you’re not instate for CA schools then it looks like all reaches.

Any safeties?

I think maybe you should add a school that is more of a safety than UCSD, especially if you are OOS for the California schools.

Always be safe, not sorry. ;)

I’d add Cornell, Dartmouth, Northwestern, and maybe Rice

Yea, I live in California.
You think I should do Cornell, Dartmouth, Northwestern, and Rice?
That’d make it 16 schools…maybe I’ll just do Cornell and Dartmouth…any other advice?

The first nine schools listed are among the most selective in the country. While you possess very good stats, at many of your schools a 2290 SAT is average. I could see you being admitted to most of the nine, but I could also see you being shut out at all of them, the competition is that fierce.

In-State California probably makes UCSD your safety but one more a step below wouldn’t hurt.

As for adding Cornell, Dartmouth, Northwestern and Rice, my question is: do you have a specific reason for making the additions? Are you just adding them because they are famous names or do they offer something that makes them particularly attractive to you? That said, I’d add Northwestern or Rice because they are marginally less selective than the rest of your non-California list. Frankly I think you need to do some more research and cut original top 9 to a top 5, keep the Cali schools add another safety and then consider if it’s worth adding NU or Rice.
