my common application essay is 300 words.is that too short?

??????????????

If you've fully expressed all that you need to express, there's no reason to add more words to fluff it up. I think the best course of action for you right now will be to let the essay rest for at least a month or so. You have plenty of time. After that, take a fresh look at it. See if you're articulating all that you want to say, if you still even want to say the same thing.

I'd also advise you to have several people read over your essays. I'd suggest a family friend or an Aunt or Uncle. You want readers who you know well and trust, so they can evaluate whether your essays show off the true you. I wouldn't have your parents read over the essays, since they are probably a bit too close to give an objective reading.

well the giudeline is 250-500....and since 250<300<500 i'm going to go out on a limb here and say it's fine (the length at least)

I would say it's too short. You want to show them that you are an awesome person and that there's so much that could be written about you even 500 words isn't enough. You shouldn't have to fluff it up and add unnecessary words though.

When I was writing the essay I was having trouble writing 500 words about one experience, so I added more about who I was before, and some of the resulting experiences and how I was changed overall. I agree with Catfish, you should leave it for a while and when you come back I'm sure you'll see there's a lot more to write.
