<p>Exactly. It depends on interests and elective courses of the student. I was in college (undergrad) a little over 20 years ago. Back then, the CS majors had to take almost as much math as a math major and sometimes it was just that…more math…not math that would be more in tune with the CS-emphasis of the student.</p>
<p>Now some schools have a combined Algebra/Number Theory course which takes elements of the two areas so that a CS major can be prepared for a crypto course, instead of having to take Abstract Algebra I, II and Number Theory (3 courses). There are more variations of a Linear Algebra course…one for engineers/CS-majors and one for us math majors.</p>
<p>If I am interviewing a Java or C++ or C# developer, I am more interested in their knowledge and past performance with those skillsets. I am not concerned about whether or not they had Real Analysis.</p>
