I am a junior in New England. I have a 3.8-3.9 (UW) and 4.40 (W). I take all honors classes and am currently taking one AP class.

I have great ECs. I am a part of five clubs. I am president in one of them and I started one club. And I have attended an Ivy League's summer journalism program and because of my EC I have been on the NY Times!

I was a lead volunteer at a prestigious hospital and have 224 hours of service. I am also a part of the student government.

I got a 149(0) on my PSATs, but I was sick that day and I studied for about 30 minutes. I am not making any excuses. I got a 1950 on my first practice SAT test!

I will get a 2000+ on the real test if I study hard enought!

Will that ruin my chances for those schools?

I will STUDY HARD for the SATs and I have enrolled in Kaplan!

Provided that you get at least 2000

I am basing these predictions on the fact that you are not an URM or ORM. Essays could be the deciding factor for some of these schools, so definitely work hard on them. Yale is the only one in there that you will definitely have trouble getting into. Nowadays, there are simply way too many stellar applicants for Yale. If you are a URM, I’ll turn the Yale prediction to a mid-reach.

Frankly, if you get close to a 2100 SAT, and with your extracurriculars and GPA, I think you should be able to pretty easily get into USC and NYU, especially if you have great essays. By the way, congratulations on having been recognized in the NY Times, it should help considerably with these colleges. Being Indian does not significantly hurt you unless you’re applying to an Ivy level school. Besides, California forbids AA so I’d say you have a really good shot at it.

2000? You need 2200+ to be considered for Yale, unless you have donated a building or something. There are tons of kids with your stats. NYU and USC are high reaches and the rest are matches, but it’s all a crap shoot. AND it depends on your high school, not all are the same, and colleges know that.

for schools like yale you need atleast a 2200, but the rest of your stats show that this score is possibly, as you seem like a pretty bright kid. if you increase your scores

Assuming a 2000+ SAT,

USC - high match
NYU - high match
Cal State - match
Pace - match
Yale - high reach, but its a high reach for someone with perfect scores, its kind of a crapshoot with an acceptance rate below 10%
Northeastern - definitely in

Affirmative action is a practice many schools perform to increase diversity, usually ethnic diversity. Because Indians are generally competing for Ivy level schools, you will be hurt if you apply to one.
