I had a chance to read my counselor’s rec for me because of a scholarship. In it, she says that I wanted to major in chemical engineering, when I actually want to do a different type of engineering. The rec has already been sent to all my colleges, and I’ve applied for a different field of engineering for all of them. Do you think this will negatively affect my chances? The rest of the rec is great.
Thanks in advance!
It depends on the nature of the scholarship. If it’s for a specific kind of engineering (not chemical engineering), then obviously this is a big deal. If it was for a general engineering, or an academic scholarship, than it probably makes little or no difference. It would make sense for your GC to send a correction (assuming he/she is the one who made the mistake) in any case, but I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. A brief email would be sufficient.
@N’s Mom Well actually it was a general recommendation for the Common App. I only got the chance to see it for a unrelated scholarship. It was just that it differed from the major I had applied for in the general college application on the Common App. So I was wondering if the little mistake would affect my college applications, not the scholarship.
