My counselor ruined my chances

So I applied to Early Decision I and the school's take on senior first quarter grades was that they were optional and were not needed.

I attended a meeting with my counselor and he said that he sent my senior first quarter grades as I requested. But I never made any mention of requesting anything, or first quarter grades in that manner, and I knew his mistake would ruin my chances.

I got a C+ and a range of B's in my 4 AP classes and 1 Elective and I didn't want them to be sent. I know that C+ is going to ruin my chances and thus be labeled as the one who is under the spell of "senioritis."

What should I do? I am very nervous and furious at the same time and I called the office and said that it had already been sent.

unless you are applying to a very top tier school your grades shouldnt hurt that much because of your strength of schedule try to raise them by mid year reports.

Egg his house!
Honestly, whats done is done, and the reality is that it is a big hit to your chances but colleges might be a little lenient with college apps, school, and everything going on. It also depends on the school you EDed to you and the strength of your application before that. What school did you ED to?

Well, I’m applying to Vanderbilt and the decision is December 15th. I don’t think I have any more time to send them my mid year report…

No offense, but you’re the one who got the bad grades. I’m sorry your counselor misinformed you, but a range of B’s and C’s, whether you thought they were going to be sent or not, means you have senioritis either way.

Also, most schools request your first quarter grades for ED.

you ruined your chances.

They are not bad grades except for the C+. They are just unfavorable. I got that bad grade because of 1 test and we had 3 teachers for that class because the original one had to leave. And everything was unorganized and it was hard to prep for the test.

But I guess what’s been done is done. Whatever.

Could your counselor possibly contact the school and describe the teacher situation you just mentioned? Might help?

any help? bum

I might do that. I’ll talk to him tomorrow about it.

@rainbowrose: Which schools are you referring to? “Most” schools that I know of with ED programs do not request first quarter grades.

To the OP, I think everyone here is being a little too insensitive. Will that first quarter report likely be considered with your application now that it’s been sent? Yes. But I also think that a lot more emphasis will be placed on every other part of your app. A little senioritis is totally excusable; maybe it’s uncommon on CC- where everyone seems to be unusually motivated- but it’s not uncommon in the real world. Cut yourself a little slack!

Thank you haha, I took my first breath in a long time.

But should I talk to my counselor about that C+? Thanks :)

Your counselor is an ***hole

^ Agreed…but most of them are inept, it seems.

@ the OP: Sorry- no advice to offer there! I wish I could be more helpful.

thanks for your concern travelbug, I appreciate it

But this might be a stupid question, but if the school doesn’t require first quarter grades, then would sending them count against me? Or would it?

A lot of schools, like top tier school, U of Mich for example, wont even consider looking at quarter grades. Your counselor should know what schools would look at quarter grades and schools that wouldnt.

so do you think that vandy will look at them?

bump need help

Why would they not look at them?
