My D just got admitted for Spring 2010

Andormer, thanks for the info. I'm glad the petition worked for you. Our contact said they wouldn't even start to look at the appeals until after May 1, when they know how many students are coming to each term. Yours was a little quicker. That's great and it's worth a try.

Andormer, that sounds great and it gives people that were admitted to Spring that want to appeal to change it to Fall or Summer (like me!) a confidence boost.

A few questions however:

How exactly did you ask in the email? Is there a certain format that we must use to petition?

Seeing that your term of admittance was changed, did you still have a chance to find housing? In other words, how does housing for those that had their term of admittance changed work? Do we pay our fee for Spring and request to have it transfered to Fall? Or what?

Thanks again.

Gpowsang

This is my exact e-mail to him:
Dear Mr. Miller,
I am an incoming freshman and would like to thank you for the acceptance to the University of Florida, however I have been accepted to the spring 2009 term after applying for fall 2008. I am very interested in the University of Florida and would like to petition a change to the fall 2008 term. Please consider this change and thank you for this consideration. Your kind response as soon as possible would be greatly appreciated.

And I included my UFID (which should be on the admission letter.)

As far as housing goes, I was put on a wait list since I didn't know until the end of April, so I decided to just sign lease for a close by apartment. I did end up finding out that housing came available, but I was already content with the apartment thing. Where I live is not even a half mile from campus and I ride my bike there. I would have liked to get a change to live on campus my first year, but I really like where I live. As far as the fee, I really don't know, but I'm sure if you call someone can answer that question.
But overall I am really glad I went through all of that because I really like UF, and I am having a good time, besides the huge amounts of studying.

Thanks for sharing that, Andrea. I know that the late change may cause a little havoc with the housing, but it's worth it if the term change gets granted.

FYI:

Incoming students that have been admitted can submit a "term change request" to the UF Admissions Office.

How to submit a "term change request":

* Student should email (freshman@ufl.edu) or fax (352-392-2115) requesting the change. Email is the preferred method.
* The more information you provide in your request, the better. You are encouraged to explain in detail why you want to change admission terms.

UF Department of Housing and Residence Education Undergraduate Assignments - INCOMING STUDENTS: Admissions Term Change Requests

not to bump this thread.

but has anyone heard back about term change requests?

and does anyone know if, for those that end up going for spring, we are guaranteed housing if we paid our $25 early?

So I’m considering requesting a term change but I’m somewhat worried. If I request a term change will the admission people think I am being greedy and not happy with what I got? This might convince them to refuse admission for spring which I already have. I don’t know maybe I’m just being paranoid lol…

^but has anyone heard back about term change requests?

There was one person on the Appeal thread who was notified last week that they granted their request to change from Summer to Fall.

D followed up yesterday and they are still saying after May 1 when they know exactly how many people are coming for Summer and Fall.

As for housing for Spring, your original priority date will prevail. As far as chances for getting into the dorms, you should just contact housing. They have online chat during the day, so it’s quite easy to get your questions answered that way.

Because of the pending term request change to Summer or Fall and loss of priority for those terms, we went ahead and secured off-site housing for my daughter.

I am a student at UF, a rising sophomore, and I was admitted for the Spring 2009 term. I never appealed it, and signed a lease at the Ivy House on sorority row. It’s an all-girls off campus dorm so it was perfect for me since I wasn’t allowed to live on campus until second semester. I took a bunch of hard gen ed credits at Santa Fe, and it was the best decision I could make. Let me just tell you know, Bio is about 100000 x easier at Santa Fe!!! Like your daughter, I also toook a TON of AP’s in high school, 7, 3 senior year as well. Who knows why I got into Spring?? I don’t care though because it worked out SO well, and I’m still way ahead of my peers at UF in terms of number of credits. Like another poster said, it was great that I was able to get myself affiliated with campus, I even got a Gator 1 card first semester so I could go to a lot of the activities and even the gym. (Although South West gym will swipe your card to see if you have any credits, the other gym doesn’t). Anyways, good luck… .and whatever you decide will work out for the best!

Anybody interested in graduate school, such as Medicine or Law, should be circumspect about taking hard courses at Santa Fe than transferring them to UF.

Taking all of your Biology prerequisites at Santa Fe will put you at a disadvantage when it comes time for Med school applications.

vincanity1 has some great advice about Micro and Macro. Denslow’s class is harder. Also, if your daughter is doing any major involving chemistry or biology, she can knock out some CHM or BSC (depending on her AP classes) at Santa Fe.
