My D needs a few low match LAC options

White female
Competitive Catholic HS
GPA : 4.0uw, 4.5w
ACT-33
All honors and AP's
EC's- varity volleyball and swim, lots of volunteer hours
Rec's- great
Essay- will be great (writing is her strong suit)

Preferably looking for the southeast. Will consider Ohio or Pennsylvania.

would play DIII volleyball at top choices

Thanks!

Some great options would be Furman and Richmond. Also, check out Davidson.

This file screams Kenyon…

I’m surprised to hear someone thinks Richmond is a low match!

We are visiting Furman and Kenyon in June.

Thanks…anyone else??

Bump. Any other ideas? What about Elon, Sewanee, Roanoke?

not southeast but Sarah Lawrence? great school and writing is VERY important to them so that sounds like a good match

Any other LAC suggestions? Any personal info regarding Roanoke? Thanks

PA: Gettysburg, Dickinson, F&M, Muhlenberg. With 4.0, 33 ACT and volleyball - probable high merit aid at all 4

Pardullet,

Thanks! I will investigate the schools. She has not made up her mind regarding playing vball in college. She has definitely ruled out playing DI…too much like a full time job. The DIII’s have academics as a focus. She has been recruited by mid-level DI’s so I’m pretty confident she could contribute to a DIII.

Not low match or D3, but if you’re looking at Furman, consider Wake Forest.
I second Sewannee
Juniata

This begs the next question. How much does the ability to play a sport at a DIII (do not offer athletic scholarships) help with admissions and $$? Thanks…

my D is playing D1 (not vball - yes, full time job+) and my son attends Gettysburg. The anecdotal info leads me to believe it is a clear help in admissions and probably puts her high on the list for their top merit award. I’m certain no school would admit that and your D would clearly be on their list for such an award w/o vball. The athletic card would most probably push her to the front of their list, in my view.

Can your D play D2 volley-ball?

Perhaps another safety to add on a list should be a D2 school, since I’m not aware of super-selective schools playng women’s volleyball at the D2 level. The super-selective schools all seem to play D1 or D3 volleyball…

Catria,

I truly haven’t looked into it for two reasons. First, my D is not all that interested in playing past HS. Second, I have no idea what impact it would have on her admissions/scholarships.

My feeling is she would come around to the idea of playing IF it helped her gain entrance to one of her top schools.

I know nothing about DII vball. My guess would be if she’s being recruited by pretty decent DI’s, then DII is doable??

If cost is a consideration, Elon’s tuition is more affordable relative to some other schools. Look at the Elon Fellows program. I think it’s DII for voleyball. Not sure where you are travelling from to Furman, but if you are driving from Richmond, it could be a stop on the way.

As far as D2 vs. D3 is concerned, I think that D2 should aid for admissions and money, but not as much as it would be for D1. Now, if that D2 school offered merit aid, athletics will probably help the chances to get it (although your D is likely to get merit aid without a sport at most D2 schools that offer merit aid)
