** I know my EC's suck, but I'm trying to get them up Junior/Senior year

** School doesn't rank, but I have one of the higher GPA's, top 10%, maybe top 5% (school isn't very competitive, nice school district but not many kids go to Ivies)

** I have not taken any SAT's yet but I did get a 191 on the PSATs, which I know is very low but I did not study for the test at all, and also had never taken any sort of test like it. Since, I have been studying rigorously for the SAT's which I will take next year. MY score will definitely improve from the PSAT- SAT predicted score of 1910.

** I'm not sure what I'd like to major in, both History and Nursing interest me. I'm between like high school history teacher and nurse, random I know haha.

** I am Hispanic, not sure if this helps my chances?

** Female, from Pennsylvania

So, assuming all goes well (Straight A's, 5's on all AP Exams, successful EC involvement, raised SAT Score) what are my chances at UCLA?

Schools I like:

Villanova
Duke
UNC
Loyola Maryland
Georgetown
Yale (for my dad but I'd like to go :/)
Princeton (Ditto.)
Pepperdine
UCLA
Pomona
UPenn
Penn State (scholarship? My dad makes a lot of money ef's it all away, currently paying for college entirely by myself, dad makes $200k+, not a candidate for financial aid, right?)

Could you chance me please and also recommend schools that would be a good fit? And perhaps schools that would give me any scholarship?

Thank you!!

Hispanic will help at non-state schools.

Defo. in at Pepperdine, Penn State, and I’d say 80-90% UCLA.
Duke, Yale, Princeton, Pomona & Penn, all gambles.

Pomona and UCLA are really really different though, Pomona’s class is 400 people while LA’s is 4800…you sure you like both?

It is really to early to say much until you take some standardized tests. BUT as a junior you need to take the PSAT. I know you took it already, but only the jr year test counts for the national merit scholarships. You should also plan to take the SAT in October of your junior year, that way you are studying can apply to both tests.

If your father makes $200k, then need aid is out, and you need to think about schools that offer merit aid, as well as those you can afford. If he is pressuring you to figure this all out now, you need to sit him down and say, “Dad, now just exactly how much can we afford, because there is no way I can figure this all out without knowing.”

You are taking a rigorous schedule; that is great. Just keep those grades maxed out.

Financial aid is out, but merit scholarships are a good chance. At UCLA, admissions doesn’t care what type of A you get (A-, A +). An A is an A so it doesn’t matter here as far as undergraduate admissions go. I wouldn’t chance you at all at UCLA without knowing actual test scores or personal statements. Make sure you show passion in your application and not a list of activities.

USC gave me a full ride in scholarships and university grants but I declined their offer.

at privates, yes.

nevermind.

^^^lololol. Lmao.
