And she got Distinguished Scholar Scholarship.$79,200 for 4 years. Is this good ??She will study fine art.

Yes, it most certainly is! It will take a chunk out of the tuition for sure, but the school is still very expensive. That makes it about 18-19K per year if you were taking 30 credit hours per year. I think that scholarship is on the higher end (maybe the second highest? Presidential is the top one). Hope that helps! If your family can still take on the load/is willing to take on the debt, it seems like SAIC would be a good option.

We will waiting other school’s results.

That is on the high end for SAIC. Congratulations!! Is your daughter a strong student academically?
Curious to hear what other schools offer. My son is applying to SAIC and MICA as well as some liberal arts programs. But we will not hear for awhile as he didn’t didn’t do early action.

GPA(not good);3.5.SAT 2100. 4APs. 1 club’s President, 1 national lever award(Art), National Merit Scholarship Commended Students
She apply SAIC for early action.Good luck for your son.

drae- academics definitely help for the higher SAIC scholarships! I was just awarded the Presidential Scholarship, which is valued at 101,200 this year. I had a 3.7/4.0 GPA and a 34/33 on English/Reading respectively for the ACT. Not sure where I will be going though, as I am currently working on the Cooper Union hometest right now(my first choice school).

Congratulations!!Werwandert.About how long you receive your Cooper Union hometest after you submit your application? Thanks.

Thank you! Well, it depends on whether you are applying early or regular decision. I applied early decision back in October or November and received my test on December 7th. You have EXACTLY one month to complete it and send it in (due Jan. 7th, not a postmarked deadline either). For regular decision I imagine the test will come out mid-January. The questions change for regular decision. Hope this helps!

Congratulations to her.

Would she be willing to post her portfolio? DD is interested in seeing what successful applicants have submitted.

Thank you very much. werwandert. Good luck:)

thanks for the info! I’ll keep you posted as we hear.

good luck werwandert!

Hebegebee. I don’t know if you are familiar with National Portfolio Days. They are certain days in various cities across the country where many of the art schools come together to evaluate high school student work. Each college or school has a table and the kids stand in line and then take their work up to the administrator or professor and the work is discussed. I don’t know what year in school your child is, but my dd went after her soph year and her junior year and got great and helpful feedback. She also connected with admissions officials that she maintained a relationship with throughout the process of applying. You can google “national portfolio day” for the info and also do a search here, as there are some really helpful hints for attacking the process. Most of the days are in the fall, but there still may be some in January.

We just learned about National Portfolio Day. We missed this year’s session, but as you said, we are still early in the process.

I’m a student i tell you that’s A LOT on average they only give out around 40K- 50K for all four.

Thanks kscales.

kscales: you mean they will find out reason to hold the money back? They break their promise?

If you want to risk the chance of placing your daughter in a dorm room that will have cigarette and weed smoke permeate the living area due to idiot smoking indoors, then SAIC is the place to go. By the way, the RA and security won’t/can’t do anything about it so… yeah

I may be one of the few, but if you want to risk it then go for it.
